Welcome to the forum. I wouldn't hesitate to speak with the physician via telemedicine, but the results may be something you want to discuss in person, if possible. My experience with telemedicine has been confusing at times, depending on who you're talking to. If the doctor isn't your son's pediatrician, you may want to try and set up a time to speak with him/her either by phone, or telemedicine if they can. Personally, I think you are safe to enter a facility now. Not knowing what your son's history is, I would explain that to whomever you talk to, and see what you can work out regarding his safety.

So my 13-year-old son wanted to be vaccinated and I want to have a doctor's recommendation first since he has some medical history. I found out that Telemedicine in Georgia curogram.com/blog/telemedicine-georgia is becoming common. I am still afraid and not confident to bring my son to a hospital just for a check-up. Is it fine to use the Doctor's recommendation via telemedicine during vaccination? Did anyone of you try it? Just wanted to be sure. Thank you!

Since I have an over abundance of idle time while isolating by myself with my cat, I have been spending time learning about the virus from the virologist/ immunologist point of view. That's what I was trying to understand, you made it clear to me about the similarity to the HBV vaccine. My mind was trying to figure out how it was related to the treatments for Hcv. [All due to it being an RNA vaccine ]

Yea, God bless those first ppl who are getting the vaccine. Many of them are eager  for it due to how vulnerable they are in their workplaces. Then the nursing home staff and patients will be in the beginning too. 

It will be awhile before we are required, if we are ever. As long as we are masked we should be allowed anywhere. The big one will be employers requiring employees to be vaccinated...

There have been flu shots that were created kind of quickly too if I recall.

I'm sure no one wanted to go through the polio,smallpox, measles etc trials and vaccines...... sadly humanity is just one big experiment :(

I'm with you, this virus has caused enough damage, medically and economically around the entire globe. Wherever it crawled out of initially, it has been made a moot point, because it's everywhere, and we now have to deal with it and the consequences. The impact this had on us, and our global neighbors will be felt for years. Boo...

We now have the Pfizer vaccine approved in the UK, but Fauci is now saying he thinks it shouldn't have been released this early. That guy, while brilliant, comes up with some odd positions. No masks, masks, then we were told it would be years to develop the vaccine. Operation Warp Speed in the USA got that reduced to less than a year. We have various state governors saying they won't accept it until Jesus returns. Too much politicization going on in all of this. I'm dumbfounded personally. The Covid-19 virus is an RNA virus, like HCV. I'd like to talk to Dr. Fauci and these Big Pharm companies. I'd ask them why HBV has a vaccine, another RNA virus, but there is still nothing on the wire about an HCV vaccine? I honestly haven't done my own deep dive homework on it, but I will at some point. A news report this morning said that this will be similar in roll out to the HBV vaccine. There will be two vaccinations, separated by several months. If you don't get the second, it won't be effective. There will be a card provided (papers) to show the required vaccination date of the second vaccination. Some businesses may require that card for entry. If a person refuses the vaccination, and that's true, you can imagine how that's going to work out.

Anyway, I'm glad there has been so much progress on it and pray for our friends in the UK that have been given the first opportunity to use it. Considering the rapidity of development, I truly believe they will be the actual Phase 3+ trial members. I know there have been human Phase 3 trials already, but it's been studied only months, not years like our own trials were. Placing our lives in the hands of others requires a lot of faith. I'm praying for us all. This needs to end.

This biological thing has been my greatest nightmare and biggest fear come true. I try not to go with the conspiracy theories because so many are way out there as to even be believable at all, but maybe this was a plan to get the population down? Question is...whose plan.

There hasn’t been much updating on long term post treatment adverse reactions and side effects. It seems that most of the interest disappeared following the trials. Most of the news in that respect come from anecdotal evidence (word of mouth). That’s one reason it is important to share those experiences with your treating doctor. They follow the trial documentation as well. Most of these medications were brand new 5 years ago, some longer. Any long term adverse issues are just now coming to light.

That said, I can absolutely confirm, many people are experiencing arthritic problems. I’ve heard several mention painful feet, making it a challenge to walk. It did improve in most, but persisted in others. I think instead of dangerous problems, we’re witnessing less serious complaints. HCV by itself causes several issues, especially if left to percolate for decades. All of these drugs are harsh, but the new all oral medications are less harsh than those from the Interferon days. In my humble opinion only. All of these drugs seem to affect the joints and nerves at some point. Remember though, HCV can cause arthritis, muscle/joint pain, among so many others. 

The thing many of us have noticed is these issues often improve, especially if the aches and pains were medication induced. If you were beginning to have trouble before treatment, it may take longer to achieve the same level of improvement, if you do. I’m dealing with increasing neuropathy and joint pain, too. Once those nerves start going, it’s difficult to expect normal function to return. Basically, your recovery and/or improvement depends greatly upon how much repair work needs to be met.

It‘s a slow process, but is well worth it. Curing HCV did stop the uncontrolled destruction of our liver and body. So that by itself, is glorious. We might be stuck in our comfortable chair with joint pain, but by God we’ll have happier livers!

Cryoglobulinemia (tongue twister, lol) has been discussed here on many occasions. It is a well known problem in our community. Basically, there are cryoglobulins (blood proteins) that can build up, especially in colder weather. They end up being deposited in the joints and organs. It can lead to a number of problems, especially joint pain and often will present itself in a rash. Your doctor has to order specific tests to find if there are elevated cryoglobulins.

You mentioned air conditioning. Here in south Florida, we absolutely have to have it. It's hot most of the year, with high humidity and dewpoints. Just walking to the mailbox requires a shirt change when you come back inside! It's like wearing a hot, wet blanket in 100 degree heat. Okay, a little dramatic, but it's true! I hope the person responsible for inventing it, I think it's Carrier, should be given a Nobel Prize for something, lol! Most homes here have central AC installed. I have a friend that just installed a split unit, as you described, in an 800 square foot space and absolutely loves it. They work quite well and efficiently. If you have never had AC before, you'll immediately be a believer. It's easier to breath clean and cool air. I recommend it highly!

What do they have to say about the low CD4 count? It's amazing how many components make up the White Cell family. 213 is getting awful close to 200. I know people with HIV have trends (fluctuations) and realizing you are always conscious of your health and taking care of it, I know it's not because you're abusing your body or ignoring what needs continued attention. How often are they testing you now? I'm glad that you're staying on top of it. Keep me in the loop!

RC last logged in a couple of weeks ago, but he's the shy type I guess and just lurks! He's still keeping an eye on us though. Jill checked in recently too. She's doing well and is dealing with this virus grief in London, as best as anyone can. We just have to keep our guard up and stay clear of crowds. We've been essentially placed on a mask mandate down here and it's not being accepted well by many. Some of the PPE's I've seen people wearing are bizarre, to say the least. The picture of a couple wearing feminine napkins over their nose and mouth was pretty wild. I've seen people actually wearing plastic bags over their head, with a hole for their mouth and a mask over the hole. One dude was wearing a scuba mask and a snorkel with a filter over the end! I have to move along before something escapes my loose lips, lol! I hope this craziness passes sooner than later. I'm guessing November 4th and it'll be back to the routine. Who knows...

Harry, you be careful down there! You've got enough on your plate. Unfortunately the summer heat isn't far off. Do your doctors participate in tele-medicine? Seems like most of ours are encouraging that. I don't like it myself. For some minor things, fine, but not for all the issues we tend to have. My ID Dr. says stay quarantined and I mind well. I order groceries for pickup and use the drive thru at my pharmacy. I've had 2 Dr appointments and DOnned my P95 respirator with eye protection both times. I haven't changed my HIV medication regimen, yet, but my CD4 count is 213 which is not good (13 above being considered AIDS). And my last viral load listed 21 copies / ml, which is only 1 above the LLOD of 20. So that result makes me question what the hell the lab people are doing smoking dope LOL. She wants to see me back before my usual bi-yearly checkup to run more test.
 The only medication changes I've made to my meds due to SARS-CoV-2 hitting town is zinc and vitamin D3 supplements, and I consume plenty of vitamin C rich foods and get as much sun as possible. Still riding my bike of course, weather permitting which is easy to maintain social distancing although I do carry a mask with me just in case. I've had no issues with shortages of any of my normal HIV medications so far. I've seen reports of Remdesivir being used for Covid. That was developed for HCV originally. Also inhaled corticosteroids, ivermectin, nitric oxide, and most recently inhaled interferon beta since Covid blocks the body's natural interferon response but, although the data is promising, there are no completed randomized controlled trials for any of them yet that I've seen.

How are you holding up through this? What are your ID docs recommending? I'm reading some articles that say some of the antivirals we were on and some of our members continue to use, have provided good responses against this C19 virus. How does it impact your HIV meds? I know they mentioned several of them as potential help in controlling it. How have your lab tests been lately, if I may be so bold and ask? I'm trying to get my mind around this virus and how it impacts us here. I'd like to know how RC and his transplant drug routine since this flared up. I'd like to know how this has impacted current protocols. I'm glad we're not dealing with the old stuff. Can you imagine a low white count and hemoglobin of <10 and this floating around? I'd be living in a bubble!

At this point the current, highly 'sensitive' RT-PCR test that we are using #1 takes too long to get result, #2 requires a large number of testing and lab sites and staffing for those sites, #3 it detects very low viral load level of infection including fragmented particles of RNA which can remain for weeks or more after the person has recovered and is well past the point of being 'infective' (capable of causing infection to others) which renders contact tracing almost useless. What we need is a rapid test that can be used at home or upon arrival at school / work / etc. that tells if the person is 'infective' on that particular day. This technology currently exist and is not being used because the FDA requires high sensitivity in order to approve a test. The high sensitivity is really only detecting initial infections a few hours before a lower sensitive test will also detect it due to the exponential growth in viral load at the point of being detectable via sensitive RT-PCR test. This is causing bottlenecks and is only marginally productive in detecting 'infected' people in this 'highly productive' outbreak which we are experiencing in many populated areas right now.

 'Medcram.com' and 'This Week in Virology' have both interviewed Dr Micheal Mina (Epidemiology professor at Harvard) who is pushing for this technology which, in the opinion of many of the 'SCIENTIFIC' experts (including Dr Fauci), is badly needed right now.

Yikes, Iris! I do recall you feeling iffy, on and off, for most of this year.  I'm so glad you got an ab test to help you start getting to the bottom of this. Maybe you should keep a diary of your symptoms. I know can forget about symptoms on the days I don't have them.

You have been staying isolated, right? That should cut down on the CV19 likelihood. No matter what's ailing you, it can't be fun. I hope you are able to keep the stress down.

I too have battled the worst upper respiratory infection Ive ever had...like since Feb/March...at that time in Canada they were only testing people if they had travelled to China or had a cough with a fever,
I couldnt breathe (mostly at night trying to lie down) without coughing and hacking...I was dizzy and a occasionally hallucinating plus my allergies were super triggered (always happens when my immune system is struggling) But I had no fever so I didnt go to a dr or the emergency dept or ask to be tested.

by the time us nontravelling nonexposed people were allowed to get a test...the worst was over, it had been 2 and 1/2 months of being super sick...I tested negative but I still think I may have had it.
In Canada they are developing the antibody test but they not for general consumption yet, so Im still being super careful and my Dr is going to let me know as soon as we can get that test.

i had that awful upper resperatory thing in jan/feb and it lasted 3 weeks.....it sounded like i had water in my lungs but i recovered well enough.

right now it's allergies and IBS making me feel sick.

i'm getting my ab scan in the morning and can't wait to see that everything is alright in there since i've had so much trouble with my GI tract.

If you have been hiding (mostly), then the risk is low for the Rona. Don’t forget, the flu is running wild right now. It’s far more widespread. My wife had the CV19 Antibody test last week. We both thought we had previously been infected. Last year at Christmas, I came down with a terrible upper respiratory infection, she, a milder form. It took me forever to get back on my feet. To this day, I have diminished lung capacity. Long story short, she was negative for antibodies. If either of us had had it, we surely would’ve exposed each other. I‘ll take it (AB test) when I see the doc again. So far, so good. After all this shutdown, we’re ripe for every bug floating around. Be cautious until our immunity builds up. Some germs are good, but keep washing those hands!

For a matter of recollection I shall place this here.

For the last week and a half I feel like I did when I was catching that bug. (the one I had at the end of Jan/start of Feb) But it hasn't really manifested. I reminds me of the way I felt with the Hep-C. Constantly feeling like I was catching a cold. This time with eye pain, super tired, minor aches, sore-ish throat, bad headache, a little chest pain, one degree more than normal fever, little cough. Today I feel ok though, It was like ok am I going to be sicker tomorrow?, but no. (thankfully) I have had some minor aching in the liver area and of course my first worry is oh ****, it's the Hep c coming back, then I wonder if the crappy feeling is the liver still cleaning up and that was just an after-shock of the C-virus. Damn... so many freeing viruses, definitely had my share. and am so done with them. 

Waiting on the covid antibody test, I think that will tell much about how widespread this really is.

sorry they didnt have cleaning supplies ...grrrr... people are crazy.... there was a couple here in B.C. that went to all the Costcos and bought ALL the Lysol wipes in the first days of this thing happening..... then after paying 15-20 $ per package...they sold them on amazon for 89$ and made 30,000$ in a few days.... they were interviewed by media and were bragging about how much money they were making while no one else could get a package of wipes and amazon closed their account and changed the rules so people cant price gouge cleaning supplies...

anyhoo...from  a lot of what Ive read...soap and water will destroy the virus... Thats the main thing they are drilling the public with...wash your hands frequently and dont touch your face... hydrogen peroxide might help but I have heard you have to leave it on surfaces for like 10 minutes for it to destroy bacteria...dont know if its the same with this virus...

so frequent hand washing...including the backs, thumbs and fingernails...

do you have any bleach in your laundry room? You can put a teaspoon of bleach in water and make a pretty effective sterilizer for surfaces (doorknobs, light switches etc)

 Im glad you arent going to visit with your mom...we are not visiting with our 91 year old dad....and my baby had her 30th birthday alone in her apartment ... its just better than taking a chance..

the kids are so clever though...they are getting together via social media and having distance games , dinner parties...and my daughter had a FaceTime dance party with her girlfriends ...

A lot of our stores are having elder shopping time usually first thing in the morning..shelves are more stocked and everything is sterilized..

hydrogen peroxide is good to for cleaning surfaces after going out i think........ or plain old dish soap and water.

i think i had it already too.. i had a cough that would not stop for over 2 weeks and the virus went right to my upper chest; it felt like it was further down in the lungs for a minute but didn't go. at the half way point i had a dr's appt. for something else and she listened to my lungs ; she said i was half way over it , that it was just a virus  . to me it sounded like my lungs were bubbling water. other than the cough and one day of really bad blowing my nose and of course tiredness those were all my symptoms. it took about 3 weeks to stop coughing but i had that elbow move down.

other ppl where i work had something similar but not many. one gal was tested and found not to have corona so who knows. i hope i had it and am now immune but we'll not know that for many months or more.

i'm glad you are staying away from your mom, it's a good idea.

i am home on furlough till we get the ok to go back....but it's a casino so i don't see us as the first to open up for business even after the end of april.

i'm only going out to go to the store every week or more. tomorrow i'll go for a drive to keep my new battery revved up in my car. my mister is staying home too but we seem to be getting along well enough....better than normal i think

Thanks you guys  I managed to get to the store today. No eggs, rice, tp, ppr towels, rubbing alcohol of any strength, Lysol Or any other cleaning prod. I did pick up a bottle white vinegar, guess that 'el have to do it. But I got most every thing else I needed. It was hard not to cry behind my bandit style kerchief, this is all just so messed up.

I appreciate your concerns , the cold I had was at the end of January beginning of February. Husband and I have mused that we already caught it then. Both husband and I were sick at the same time, started with a dry hack, I had a bit of a fever for two days, it went directly to the chest by passing the nose altogether. There were several days that it was very hard to breath. Didn't sneeze much as I recall. Coughed for about 2 weeks until laryngitis set in They were saying this bug has been out longer than we thought, wish I could get a test to know...not likely I suppose.                                     that cough is just my normal phelmmy self  

Well we should be set for a couple more weeks, may have to brave the market at some point to attempt acquiring eggs.

I‘m sorry you’re having to deal with this. You have received a lot of good advice from Cheddy and Obs. I searched for some resources for you and if you haven’t already seen it, it may be helpful. The current rapid trials are extremely promising, the use of Hydroxychloroquine w/wo Azithromicin seems to be working. I was also glad to know Gilead is involved with the research and is utilizing the antiviral studies we were all involved with. After all, this Covid19 is just another virus and it’ll die like all the others. If they can use something like our DAA’s with a tweaked molecular change to attack this viral chain, this could be resolved in no time. I’m confident that WE will be helpful in conquering this pandemic!

Stay isolated if you’re symptomatic. That’s the most important thing you can do. I don’t know if telling your hubs to either stay home or stay away right now, will work, but it’s a thought. He has to know that he can be a carrier, without symptoms. If you think you’re positive and are running a fever, with a cough or respiratory distress, you should contact your doctor for directions.
