How long after treatment to get Sovaldi and Ribavirin out of system?

Hi Larry,
I'm not aware of the typical length of time that it will take Sovaldi to exit your system. However the Riba can and does take an extremely long time to completely clear. My doctor said to expect a period of 3 to 6 months before all traces have left your body. I'm into my fourth month post treatment and I can attest to the fact that it does indeed linger in your system. My current issues seem to be problems with photo sensitivity, periods of Riba anger and still some skin dryness and itching. So I have to believe my doctor's statement of a 6 month clearance period was true. It does lessen but don't expect it to end overnight. Good luck and congrats on your undetectable results!

I completed treatment yesterday a couple of days early. I was starting to become miserable from the itching as the final days were the worst by far for me. In fact, instead of itching it felt more like a fly was biting me every 60 seconds or so. The doctor prescribed atarax for me which worked very quickly but woke up this morning feeling very drugged after combining with my ambien. I got a great nights sleep and after going to the gym today, I feel much better, more optimistic, and almost human again and the itching symptoms appear to be gone now. I am hoping I can sleep without meds tonight. Anyway, it looks like my treatment was a success and doctor called today and said I am undetectable and my liver functions are normal again. I hope to be a new man in a week from now.
Good luck to everyone!

Sorry you are having such a rough time. On the bright side, you are almost done! Things can only go up from here. Best wishes

Hi Larry,
Everyone's different but these are my Hb levels: EOT-7.2 ( after 48 weeks)
EOT + 2 weeks- 10.0
EOT + 4 weeks- 12.4
EOT + 8 weeks- 13.8
EOT + 12 weeks- 15.6
Sorry about the Riba rash. I didn't have much, and it was well controlled by low dose triamcinolone ointment. I only had a brief, lukewarm shower every few days, using a tiny amount of baby shampoo as soap. Any skin creams, eg Nivea, made the rash worse. Best of luck.

Mallani,
I appreciate your information although it wasn't what I hoped to hear. I have just 3 days to go and the ribavirin is itching and driving me insane today like I am crawling with invisible biting fire ants. The more water I drink the more I itch and the invisible ants bite. Any relief available for this? I have tried skin crèmes and lotions and they don't seem to work for me.
How long does it take for the hemoglobin and RBC to get back to normal levels after a 12 week treatment period? Do they need any help or just natural process over a few weeks?
Thanks,
Larry

Hi Larry,
The elimination of Ribavirin is well established. It is not stored in fat cells. Rather, it's 3 phosphorylated metabolites are in deep tissues, such as extracellular fluid , plasma and red blood cells. Excretion is slow, and complete elimination can take up to 6 months.
Sofosbuvir has a short half-life, but it's metabolite, GS-331007 is the active component and has a half-life of 27 hours. Total excretion of both can therefore take up to a week.
As Sovaldi cannot be used as monotherapy, it's side effects are not well known. It has only been closely studied in combination Rx with Riba +/- interferon. Insomnia is common, affecting 5-10% of patients.
So you need to be patient- most report improvement after a month, as the Riba concentration drops. Cheers.

I have 3 more days of treatment after today. A nurse told me today that it can take up to 6 months to clear these drugs from my system and that they remain in the body's fat cells for a long time.
I am wondering how long before I can sleep without taking narcotics. I skipped my sleeping pill a couple of nights ago thinking I would try to wean myself off of ambien and had a very, very bad day and not all due to lack of sleep. My skin started crawling and itching something awful and I was flat out miserable just from skipping one sleeping pill.
Please, can someone tell me how long before I start to feel human again and can sleep again without taking drugs?
