Before I was finally diagnosed- in the previous YEARS of my health declining, so to speak- I had "panic attacks", IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and a host of other maladies.
In truth, I think all weird symptoms are related to the activity of the virus. After all, MOST of us are chronically infected before we find out just what exactly is causing all our problems.
HCV destroys the immune system, which if you think about it- would cause any or all the symptoms of just about a myriad of disease. In fact, HCV mimics many diseases.
As for now, I'd say just getting your diagnosis has increased your anxiety levels and thus, the panic attacks starting up again.
I would suggest you visit with your doctor about this, he/she might prescribe some anti-anxiety meds to help you through this period- and possibly keep you on them during treatment (you are planning on treating, right?)
I'm not surprised you're feeling a lot of anxiety- you've been handed your diagnosis and there is a process you have to go through in order to accept it all, helping you decide where you are going with the problem.
Asking your doctor about antidepressant therapy might be wise, also- it's a proven fact that attaining SVR is more promininent in patients that have been on antidepressant therapy well before treatment starts.
I was on a fairly decent ****tail of support drugs, some started months before I started treatment and during treatment. I know it helped get me through the journey of actual treatment.
And, believe me- your liver isn't just going to stop functioning- that is a long, insidious process and you'll be fine.
Keep us updated as to what and when your treatment will start- and stay calm, maintain patience- everything will fall into place for you!

Is it just me or do others also suffer from anxiety issues....? I have in the past had terrible panic attacks ending up in hospital a couple of times...had a fair amount of counselling and ended up sorting myself out and have been ok for the last year. In fact more than ok, really on top of the game.....however in the last few weeks these feelings have started manifesting themselves again and I start to think that my liver is just about to stop working completely and I am not going to be able to cope.... Is this just all part and parcel of having the virus....I suppose so..?
