Well, I had my blod drawn a bit early and have found out that I have indeed cleared this sucker! HCV RNA Undetectable by just 14 weeks post infection!!!! My AST is now in the normal and my ALT was just about 100, but that is not a worry since I was up to 1900 just 5 weeks ago when I had my acute attack. Doc says my liver just needs a bit more time to finish the repair. I will check my ALT again in a month and then will follow up every 3 months for a year to make sure this sneaky little virus doesn't decide to come back.
On an interesting sidenote, I got a genetic test done that tests for a polymorph on gene Il28b, and was found to have the favorable genetic makeup that has higher rates of clearence. Not really helpful since we got the results of that and the negative RNA at the same time, but it was interesting. Guess this is what saved me, huh??? Have any of ya'll had that test done?
Anyway, just wanted to let you all know the good news! I am so thankful and humbled by this experence and I wish you all the best of luck and hope you all stay strong! I will be a better nurse for this experience and who knows....maybe I'll get into hepatology someday. Take care all, thanks for the support! I'll pop in from time to time

Congratulations on what can only be a just and deserved outcome. None of us deserve this bloody mess we are in but you truly were an innocent victim, so it is nice to see what appears to be your body naturally clearing the virus. I ntruly hope the count keeps going the way it has and your next check shows it has gone.
Hopefully it has given you a little insight of what it could have been like for you and is for many others, and you carry that knowledge and message with you through your nursing career and you share it with your fellow workers.
As Ty says, there's no sour grapes here from us that go through the hell that is the virus and eventually tx, it'd be nice to think everyone clears the virus but that of course is not the case, but everyone that does, that's one more that beat the virus.

Borowif, yes, I became infected 12 weeks ago when a HCV positive patient threw his bloody IV insertion needle into my leg. It's been a rollercoaster for sure, and the waiting has been horrible, but I am so thankful to hear that it looks like I might be in the lucky minority of people who spontaneously clear. Of course I still need to draw blood in a few weeks to confirm that it indeed went to undetectable and then follow up every now and then, but my doc says a number this low and this early on really only means spontaneous clearance. Yay!

Congratulations, that is fantastic news. Have you only recently become infected as I hear the body can clear itself naturally early on in the disease? Then after 6 months it becomes chronic. Whatever I am so pleased for you. What a wonderful Christmas gift. Have a great time & happy new Year too. Hugs Lesleyx

Just wonderful to hear such fantastic news. Until you have been there it's impossible to describe the roller coaster of imotions you go through' Like you said, this will give you an insight to how your patients will be feeling, what a great nurse you will be.

Thank you eddie! I am keeping my fingers crossed that this is the real deal and I'm really licking this virus. I only wish that everyone could do so!!!! Events like this really open your eyes to the pain and suffereing that is out there for so many.
It looks as if my time with this disease will most likely be very short lived when compared to you all, and for that I truly am humbled.
If nothing else, this experience will make me a better nurse and I will have some intimate knowledge of what kind of fear people go through when facing ill health. Thanks again and best of luck to you too, eddie

I wanted to update you all...I was in the process of getting started on treatment when I had a real bad acute attack, at about 9 weeks post infection. Nausea, vomiting, slight jaundice, yada yada yada. My ALT went to 1900 and my AST went to 1300, yowzers!!! So my doc said to hold off cause this could be a sign of clearance.
My first viral count at 6 weeks post-infection was 13 million. Then it went down to 7 million at 8 weeks post infection. And then I got a viral load count drawn a week ago (one week after the acute attack symptoms subsided) and got my results today.
Drumroll... 540. Not 5 hundred and 40 thousand, but 540...period! My doc says it looks like I'm spontaneously clearing this sucker . I know I'm not out of the woods completely but my doc says that a viral count drop like this is pretty much a slam dunk that I'm clearing it. I'll get another viral count drawn on the 7th of January and he suspects it should be undetectable by then.
I know that this news is bittersweet to all of you who have undergone treatment, and I hope you all don't see this as gloating or rubbing salt in your wounds. I just wanted to thank you all for the kind words and support and thought that you would like an update. You all sound so strong and I have gotten a lot of hope from reading your posts.
Getting the news of my diagnosis was such a devestating shock to me, my family, my friends, and my coworkers, but I have had nothing but tons of support from everyone. As I'm sure you all have experienced, I have been living in fear and anger for the last 6 weeks, so if I can get out of this like the small 15% of infected, and without having to endure treatment, I am forever greatful! So I just wanted to say thanks for the support and I'll keep you all updated!
