It looks like use of coumadin is ok, but should be monitored.
If you go to the incivek site, " Incivek.com" and click on "full prescibing information", you can scroll down to the warfarin (coumadin) info.
It says:
"Concentrations of warfarin may be altered when co-administered with telaprevir. The international normalized ratio (INR) should be monitored when warfarin is co-administered with telaprevir."
By the way, I just completed week 12 on Incivek triple therapy, and have been undetectable on week 4, 8, and 12 tests for virus. Most likely I have beaten this thing. Most here have succeded, so even though the treatment can be pretty rough, it is do-able, and I recommend giving it a shot if you can.
So, good luck to both of you, whatever you choose.

I didn't get any replies, but my doctor said there shouldn't be any problems and they'd be monitoring my INR (I do that anyway.) I haven't started treatment yet, though. I might wait for my year appt in July. I want to see how others did with the new treatment first.
Good luck to you!

Hi, My name is Kathy-Jo. I also take coumadin (for 20 years now) because of mitral valve replacement. I was diagnosed with Hep C three years ago. I am now deciding weather or not to start treatment. I have the same question as you, about being on coumadin and starting treatment. Did you get any answers about this from anyone? I would be interested in any information you have learned. Did you start treatment? I am seeing my doctor on Thursday.

I'm still trying to get all my facts together before making the final decision to start tx (genotype 1b). I'm on Coumadin and will be for the rest of my life (aortic valve replacement last year). Is anyone else here on Coumadin while undergoing Hep C treatment?
The doctors don't seem to know how it all will work together and they are looking into it. I also see my cardiologist next week and will talk to him. I'm just wondering if anyone who has actually undergone the treatment while on Coumadin is handling it.
Welcome, both of you!
