Hi. I am so sorry to hear what happened to her. I have never heard of anything like that, but I imagine things like this may happen once in a while with a biopsy. I had a liver biopsy 4 years ago, but it all went well with no problems. I wish you both the best.

What a dreadful thing to happen James. It is listed as a possibility during a liver biopsy, but is rare.
Now that they've stopped the bleeding, Kay should be on the road to recovery. I can imagine she's going to feel very traumatised for a while, though.
I don't recall this happening to anyone else on the forum, so far.
I've had 2 done and here in the Uk, they generally check your blood pressure every 15 minutes, to alert them to any signs of problems such as this and keep you under observation for at least 6 hours before they allow you to go home. You're also given contact numbers, in the event of any problems, once you're discharged. I was given the option of an overnight stay, due to living alone.
Please keep us posted about Kay's recovery and hoping it will be a speedy one.

This is, unfortunately, one thing that can happen, very rare but possible.
Wishing you all the very best, my Heart Goes out to you all.
I think I have one scheduled for later on this year.

When I had my liver biopsy it felt like I got shot or something. I am going to have them knock me out or something next time.

Oh dear James,... I have heard that can be one of the horrible "side effects" But rather rare. Thank goodness she insisted on them checking further.
When I had mine done, They wouldn't let you go home for at least 24 hours, now I think they're done on an outpatient basis,?...
gosh, I hope she is going to be out and home soon, this has got to be very scary for you two, and for your whole family. Treatment is a scary thought also and I understand your concerns,... know that we are thinking of you guys and wishing Kay a speedy recovery. Blessings, Iris

Hello,
I am writing in my wife's place to let you know something that just happened to her she is still in hospital in ICU. You may have read a few post from my wife in the last few weeks. We went in Monday to get the simple procedure done and everything went just fine until we had 20 minutes remaining before leaving and she was hit with traumatic pain. She immediately told the doctor to rescan her something was bad wrong. They did and didn't see anything. She demanded they keep looking so they sent her to the ER. The ER kept giving her more and more pain meds but still wasn't working. They x rayed her did everything they thought they could do and started to send her home. That didn't not go over well she then again said she wasn't leaving until they found out what was wrong. The doctor decided to admit her for the night for observation. The next morning they gave her another cat scan. Then they saw she was bleeding internally. They immediately moved her to ICU. She has been there for 2 days now. Last night they did an angiogram and was successful in stopping the bleeding. She also had to have a transfusion. she will be in ICU for a few more days. Has anyone ever experienced this? My poor wife was already scared to death about just getting the biopsy done and now this. We did learn she is at a level 1/2. Her viral load is 5,000,000. I don't think she will do the treatment now we shall see. Any input would be great.
