I think I have narrowed down my contraction of the HCV to a public bathroom on Piccadilly Circus, in London town back in 1973. I was in the US Army and in a drug induced stuper.

ive never made any bones about it here that my hcv was more than likely drug use. for sure. BUT i do have a whole lot of tattoos, so that is also a possibility too. i make sure 'straight' kindof people think its due to my tattoos.got some i did myself. done a few on others. but i was honest with my family, specially now im clean is no shame to admit... in fact they realized they should be proud of me for makin it thru those years of iv addiction.... oh yeh. when i told my work about it, i said tattoos, and my workmate said ''well you do have a few''' so no worries there.

Hi Lorna, this is still the same thread, there just haven`t been any more replies posted since I moved it here to the "General Discussion" area from the "Knowledge Base" area where it was originally posted. Sometimes we think it`s appropriate to move threads to this area when the conversation becomes more generalised.

I tested positive for HVC in ? 2003 ? Life insurance blood test
Did't really do anything till 2008 It appears I had it for 25yrs+ by the way LC my first round of Ribv & Interferon did take about 6 months MRI's X-Rays Endoscope both ways Eyetest Mental Stability testing and they wanted to see if I would really stop drinking
I left that doctor something felt wrong about his approach he was a gasto doc that did liver also. Then I went to a Liver Hep C research treatment center ( that does Transplants just in case ) glad I did been there for 4 years now and Alcohol free It was hard but I made it so far I feel worse than I did when I was drinking but I'm glad to be free of it I don't intend to go back I would hate myself more than ever I couldn't accept the failure but that's me and my perfectionism Favorite saying I'd drink to that if my liver wasn't shot I wonder if I had it to do over would I drink so much? Most likely I would It's the Hep C that's killing my liver not drinking It's scary and can overwhelm you But it's our only choice and Success is getting better everyday so keep going LC the'll be lots of support for you here

The early eighties are probably when I got it as well, I'd say 1983 or 84 because that was the worst of my drug experimentation, and a time I was running around with a couple of people I wish I had never met.
I got a call from the health department today and I was instantly put off when she asked about how they thought I might have gotten it. I know they are just doing their jobs and I shouldn't be getting salty, but it just seems like a lack of privacy for some stranger to call and wake me up asking about that.
I will miss drinking but I am sure I will be better off without it. Nice to meet you Bills, I am sure we will be chatting in the weeks ahead!

May God bless your honest little heart! I didn't want to be the only one on here admitting to doing drugs. My 2nd ex-husband was also HCV, so I don't know if I got it from him (by getting freaky) or my druggie days.
Yeah, getting high was a party while it lasted, and I bet I will be happy to see 80 years of age too. It sure sucks to have to tell my sons that their mom could have given them HCV due to a reckless youth and they need to get checked... I don't think I'll be able to forgive myself for that bit of stupidity.

I feel great, but then again, I am not starting treatment for another 2-3 months. I don't know if my Doc wants my liver to dry out a bit or trying to get his own ducks in a row on this. I am poking around trying to learn what I can and come up with a strategy.
I have a liver ultrasound tomorrow but I don't go back to see my Doc until Oct 25th. I am glad to hear you're feeling alright and I hope you stay that way along time.

I'm not disabled, I would just like to get something from the VA().
I actually feel pretty good today. I am making sure my fat intake is right on the money and it seems to be helping me.

You know what they say "Ya live and ya learn" unless you had some guidance. I didn't.
I think lots of people on here have the "druggie" label. It's one of the most popular ways to contract the HCV.
I wish the VA would recognize it as a disability, that would help me get to 80.

Hey, I went there 30 years later! I spent 6 weeks in London the summer of 2003. I loved that city! My druggie days were behind me by then, but I sure tied a few drunken binges on! Good times....

Oh I knew better, but I was just kind of messed up in my head and immature in my late teens and early twenties.
I think if you are disabled due to treatment of HCV, you can draw disability - http://www.allsup.com/about-ssdi/ssdi-guidelines-by-disability/hepatitis-c.aspx but I don't know much about it.

Incivek is a protease inhibitor, taken with peginterferon and ribavirin, and used for HCV patients with genotype 1.
