Hi Michaele, you are correct in that larger gallstones are less likely to cause trouble. Gallstones only cause problems when they pass down the cystic and main bile ducts or when they block the cystic duct, leading to infection (cholecystitis). I have 4 gallstones measuring between 1.5 and 2 cms in diameter. They are well calcified and unlikely to fragment. Unless you are getting symptoms, let them be.

Hi again, the stones that are larger are suppose to be less likely to be the ones to cause problems; to big to enter the duct. Or so I've read. I think ever since I was told the results of my tests, Im freaking out. Before I would blow everything off, and just eat well, not smoke , drink ,or do drugs, not even RX. My GI didnt push removal of GB, but said, if I have alot of pain or start running a temp go to ED . Im elated for your response to TX, it gives me alot of hope. Thanks Michaele

I've had gallstones for 20 years. They are slowly growing, don't worry me, if I have problems I'll get them out.

Hi Michaele, I`m not sure what combo you`ll be doing when you do start tx - are you worried about how the fat intake you might need with your medication will affect you? If this is something you`re concerned about I think the best thing would be to talk it over with your doctor. I`m not aware of any reason for you to avoid extra virgin olive oil, it would certainly be a healthier option than animal fat or refined and hydrogenated fats.
I found out I had gall stones when I had an ultrasound scan following my diagnosis several years ago, and they haven`t given me any problems so far.
Best of luck! Jill xx
Ps - I`m fine, thanks.

Hi Cinnamon Girl , Im starting to feel a little sick with a 7g fat slice of cheese, may just be nerves. I am concerned about the 20g X 3 QD . Going to GI on 9/18 for upper GI to check for varices. I'll voice my concerns about diet and having GB removed. Hope your feeling fit, thanks for response. Michaele

Hi Cinnamon Girl, do you feel older? I noticed your post about Gall stones. How does one do the Tx , if they have them ? Im wondering if I have time to have mine removed before Tx. The GI mentioned it awhile back before any mention of Tx. It doesnt bother me unless I get gassy or constipated. I can eat fried green peppers with baggets dipped in olive oil. Or angel hair pasta with EVOO, feta and garlic; no problems. I was told EVOO is not the fat of choice . Im still not sure when I'll start, as I have alot of other health issues. Hope your feeling well. Michaele

"Considering the clinical proof that people with chronic Hepatitis C are at a greater risk for developing gallbladder disease, those harboring this virus are strongly encouraged to practice gallstone prevention.
Diet modification is the primary method to prevent gallstones from developing
Increasing consumption of both soluble and insoluble fiber may prevent gallstones. Fiber reduces the absorption of deoxycholic acid by producing a favorable shift in the triad of factors controlling cholesterol's solubility in bile. Soluble fibers that are effective include guar gum and pectin, as well as oat bran, wheat bran, and soy fiber, all of which are found in many fruits and vegetables.
Additionally, regular, vigorous, exercise may decrease gallstone risk
One study, reported by WebMD, found that men who performed endurance activities for 30 minutes, five times a week, experienced a 34 percent reduction in gallbladder disease risk. The benefits derived from exercise were more dependent on intensity than type of exercise. Researchers theorize that exercise helps to normalize blood sugar and insulin levels which may contribute to gallstones when abnormal
Evidence gathered on gallstone formation clearly points to an increased risk for individuals with the Hepatitis C virus. While people with chronic Hepatitis C likely have plenty of other health concerns, practicing gallstone prevention is easy due to its similarity to liver supportive lifestyle changes.
Now there is one more reason for those with liver disease to incorporate healthful habits by increasing the fiber in their diet and getting started on a regular exercise routine."
