I read one article that said some experts were blaming the unpleasant bowel movement issues on the patient not eating the full 20g of fat, causing the medicine not to be absorbed, remaining in the intestine and causing irritation. Supposedly, the worse the side effects the greater the patient's error, and the less drug he is actually getting. I say "Horse feathers!!" . I did everything but measure actual fat and eat it. If the labels on food can be trusted, I got my required fat, within the time requirements at each dose. The experts are going to have to get it through their thick skulls that Incivek wrecks the digestive system of the patient beginning with the second dose and continuing for twelve weeks. Enough of this nonsense.
Sorry about the rant.

I've been dying for a good poop talk. but first... I never never get flu shots but absolutely did before this. Not even sure they would have started treatment without it. It was on my "must complete" list before I started. Also had to get the hep a shots. POOP sheesh. Normal - gross- normal - absent color- normal - burnny butt - normal. Not sure what normal is. I was worried a bit about the lack of bile color, knowing it suggests a liver ... Something but nurse just did bilirubin and then it all went back to normal. So chalked it up to the wondrous bodily changes the drugs are causing. Nothing really surprises me and strangely I have let go of trying to put out fires, I just step back and think... Interesting.

I meant to ask my doctor about the flu shot but never did. The chemical
Pee I never noticed but my stool was atrocious in every way. The butt burn was helped in my case was desitin diaper rash ointment mixed with vasoline. I got
Hemmeroids compounded from the other issues but that stuff still helped. Also hypoallergenic bathroom wipes. This sounds nasty but keep it somewhat moist with meds. Good luck.

I don't know about the flu sho-- but the pee--oh yeah. I could even smell the Incivek on my skin. Yuck. I'm pretty sure I smelled like a walking purple pill.
All of the advice about water is true. This stuff accumulates in your system and needs to get flushed out. Unfortunately, I didn't do as well as I wanted to with the water intake b/c my throat kept swelling up making it very hard to swallow. But, I know the advice is right on.
I took a look at my doc's chart notes and it struck me as funny when I read: "Patient reports foul smelling urine." Too gross.

I get flu shots most years--when the school district I work for gives them to employees either for free or at a really low cost. I have not had the flu in many, many years--just not one of the the things I get. Think I have been around kids to long. The shot was fine Haven't really noticed the pee odor---just that I go frequently. Gotta go

I had a flu shot just before starting treatment, and it all went OK. Made it through the flu season without catching it, and it didn't seem to get in the way of treatment. Since your nurse is aware of your big picture I'd say go for it. If it were dangerous she'd advise against it.
About the strange chemical smelling pee. When I was on Incivek for the first twelve weeks the pee smelled funny (not as strong as a big serving of asparagus, but very noticeable), and the poo was very different, too. Now that Incivek is over, the poo has returned to normal, but the pee still smells like chemicals. I drink so much water that it's nearly clear, but the smell is there.
Man it's gonna' be good to get totally back to normal. My body feels like a laboratory. And the fact that I am talking about all this with a lady in NZ is just too wierd. Going through an ordeal like Hep C treatment knocks down some barriers, I guess.
