Hey Shep sure hope you get better and better! I related when you said you thought you were going to sail thru the last weeks. After a few pretty reasonable weeks that is what I thought too.
Take good care.

Glad you`re starting to feel better now Shep, but do go back to the doc if it doesn`t clear up soon. Infections can hang on longer than usual when you`re on tx, and you`ve got enough to cope with already without that.
Bet that ice-cream went down well!

glad you called the doc. I got a sinus infection about 2 months ago and yes...being sick on top of treatment is not fun but we have comprimised immune systems so are more likely to get sick. Relax, drink water, rest, and feel better soon!!

Hey Jeremy--I am starting week 19! I am so excited. This has been a rough week not sure if out of the woods yet with the strep but did get some relief today. Ice cream did the trick--I couldn't even taste it--it was just so wonderfully cold on my throbbing throat.

Boy oh boy that sounds rough, winge by all means it is like a misery vent. I have found salt water and bicarb soda garggle often can provide relief and hasten recovery of nasty throaty issues.
Take care, rest and know others are thinking of you.

Thanks guys! Sorry for the whine--I took your advice and called the doctor back and 4 hours later they returned my call. They want to give the z-pac more time to work. I wasn't thrilled but I have started feeling a little better. I think I will stay home from work another day.
Tomorrow should be better--usually the muscle tightness from the Procrit subsides by the next day. This has not been one of my better weeks. I sure don't wish this on anyone.
Hope everyone else is doing well and sx are mild!!

Sorry to hear of your misery! Strep on top of the normal side effects is more than anyone should have to suffer through. Ther are two alternatives to Procrit and I have had both. A lower dose of Ribavirin and/or a blood tranfusion. The latter instantly took me from crawling to near normal (anemia/energy wise) in a matter of hours. You might discuss both with your Dr if you feel the Procrit sides are causing you a lot of agony.

Shep, shoot! sounds like another trip to the dr is in order. I'm sorry you are having to deal with extra stuff on top of tx. that's a bummer.
as far as the significant other... I second that! would be nice to have some support in the next room. Any time you need to whine a little, I'm here for ya!

I don't know anything about whether the shot could affect it, but strep is not something you want to mess around with. Two years ago, I had strep that didn't go away for two months. I was miserable. I'm guessing your probably on a Z-pack (typical for a 5 day approach). Sometimes strep needs something different, something stronger than even a Z-pack. I think it'd be worth going to your doctor and seeing what's up. Have your WBC counts be low? Even with antibiotics, I can imagine lower WBC counts would make it harder to fight anything. Best to be safe rather than sorry!!! Feel better soon.

Hey Friends & Fellow Dragon Slayers
I need some friendly advice--this week thinking that I was going to sail through the last 10 weeks--came down with strep throat. It is killing me--went to my PCP on Monday--and she prescribed me some 5 day anti-biotics. Yesterday (Wednesday) they seemed to be working -I was starting to feel better. Could swallow without completely winching in pain and filled up on water & a little food. This morning woke up feeling like I was getting worse again. All though yesterday morning I did my Procrit shot--could not do it on Tues--was just too sick. Could it just be the sx of the Procrit making me feel worse or should I go back to the doc and cry on her shoulder?
This is when I wish I had that significant other to just take charge --feel so helpless and pathetic. Sorry for being so whiney
