Hi there sistanlaw, sorry about your diagnosis of Hep C but I have to say I find your story very puzzling.
Have I got this right, are you saying you believe that you were infected, deliberately, with both Hep C and psoriasis while participating in a clinical trial of a drug to treat Bipolar disorder? No doubt you realise that Hep C is a blood borne virus and therefore there has to be some blood to blood contact involved in order to be infected.
It`s up to you if you want to continue in your search for others who you think are in the same situation but to be honest I think you should consider that there`s a good chance you`ve got this wrong. ~ Jill

How about I participated in a clinical trial for Bi-polar and two other people sttarted on the same day I was admitted to the inpatient study. Me and one of the other participants were told by the Doctors that we both had Hep C. I told them I use to use heroine but I never mentioned that I was not an IV drug user. I also asked my boy friend if he had it and he was not infected. The other gemtlement who was in the bi-polar study never used IV drugs and havent had sex in about 7 years. He use to weigh 600 lbs. Anothter fella from a program that I was in at the time also went into the study and they told him that he had Hep C. His thought were that he probably got it in jail from getting tatoo in there. The two people who discovered they had Hep C at the clincal trial was delighted to now qualify for the Hep C study that pays 150 dollars a day. I also ended up with a terrible case of psoriasis which is another popular clincal trial. I know in my hear that I was given these two ailments by the study. It's there way to get participants that has been cleared through their bi-polar study. I am going to begin searching for other's who mysteriously ended up with Hep C while attending another study.

If the two companies can't work together, I wonder if they could sell their medicines independently and let the doctor combine the two medication to produce the solution? That way each could price their pills as they saw fit. This way the doctors would order 30 pills of Drug A and 30 pill of Drug B and tell the patient to take on of each every day for instance.
That seems like it would solve the problem and make everyone happy.
Thx.

No...the BMS trial drug that was suspended yesterday was BMS-094 (formerly INX-189). The petition is about BMS' daclatasvir (formerly BMS-790092) and GS-7977. BMS-094 was Bristol's attempt to come up with something similar to the nucleotide GS-7977...and as you can see...it DID NOT happen.
There have NEVER been such successful results as those with GS-7977+daclatasvir...100% cure rate in GT1 and 91% in GT 2/3...so please SIGN the petition & ask others to do the same. This is OUR ONLY CHANCE FOR A CURE....WITHOUT INTERFERON OR RIBAVIRIN. Call your local newspapers, TV stations, write your congressmen, representatives, etc. We have to make them HEAR!
If you would like or need more information, my email address is on the main page at the petition site. Please...help us get this information out NOW...TODAY

Hi Meghan, no it`s a different drug. The petition refers to a collaboration between Bristol-Myers Squibb, with daclatasvir, and Gilead Sciences with their GS-7977.
The drug mentioned in your link is BMS-986094, which Bristol-Myers acquired from Inhibitex Inc earlier this year, and which it has now had to withdraw due to a "serious safety issue". In other words, alarmingly a patient developed heart failure.

I was reading the article and I found a few elements of the story to be somewhat encouraging. Granted Bristol and Gilead collaborating would be the most expeditious, however with Gilead pushing forward with GS-7977 and it's own version of Dactlatasvir, there could still be some great results.
Along the same vein, Bristol has it's own version of a drug similar to GS-7977. In this situation, both company's focus on profits should spur them both on even harder to win the race of finding a cure.
Ever who can get a patented cure to market, will make a lot of money.
Apparently Gilead has the HIV market covered and wants the HEP market as well. Even though the two companies seem to not get a long, that same anomosity could drive them further and faster towards finding a 100% all oral cure for us.
"Gilead needs to justify that $11 billion and deliver profits and returns to its shareholders. Collaborating with Bristol would more than likely dilute Gilead's Hep C profits, which helps explain why Gilead isn't exactly thrilled to push ahead with the daclatasvir GS-7977 combination.
Instead, Gilead would prefer to combine GS-7977 with GS-5885, another drug it owns 100% that belongs to the same NS5A inhibitor class as daclatasvir. But a lot of work remains to be done on GS-5885; it may not be as safe or as effective as daclatasvir. It could also take longer for this all-Gilead combination to reach the market, which means Hep C patients in need of treatment will suffer."

"Quoting from ETAG: "The most effective new therapy for hepatitis C -- two pills that could cure nearly every patient treated -- may never see the light of day because the developers of these new medicines, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Gilead Sciences, seem unable to work together. Apparently, profits are more important than best patient care. Best therapy combines Bristol's daclatasvir with Gilead's GS-7977. Each is a single pill administered once a day. The results from this new therapy are nothing short of spectacular -- an early cure rate of 100% for genotype 1 patients and 91% of genotype 2/3 patients, according to data from a mid-stage study announced Thursday at the European Association for the Study of Liver Disease (EASL) meeting. Amazingly, this most promising new treatment for hepatitis C patients may actually be discontinued because Bristol and Gilead can't work together. Gilead needs to justify that $11 billion and deliver profits and returns to its shareholders. Collaborating with Bristol would more than likely dilute Gilead's Hep C profits, which helps explain why Gilead isn't exactly thrilled to push ahead. Hep C patients in need of convenient and potent new cures are being hurt." Please sign this petition to urge Gilead to work with Bristol-Myers Squibb on this drug combination for the benefit of those suffering with hepatitis C."
