I have completed 9 weeks of treatment so far. It is kicking my butt big time, but I was UNDETECTABLE at 7 weeks. YAY!
Now I have a new treatment-related problem on my plate and I am so confused as to how this is SUPPOSED to be managed.
At the eye MD last week, she found mild retinopathy in both of my eyes. In my pre-treatment eye exam, everything was OK. Yes, I am diabetic too, but all my eye exams since 1999 have been OK because, with lots of help of my diabetes MD, I manage my blood sugars well.
The Pegasys nurse line says interferon should be discontinued if eye problems develop. My doctor says he doesn't want to dose-reduce the interferon at this time. The eye doctor says come back in 30 days.
My concern: if I continue with treatment, am I risking permanent eye damage?
Hi Ms Piggles,
Treatment can cause eye problems and in rare cases, permanent damage, so it's important to have this monitored closely.
You're being given conflicting advice here and this needs to be addressed promptly. The link below explains in more detail.
