My AFP has been as high as 375 after I initially ended my first tx back in 2005 (didn't clear). Now it hovers around 125-150 and they say that's normal for me.

Hi John, The normal range for alphafetoprotein (AFP) varies from lab to lab. My lab uses an upper limit of 8 ug/l. Slight elevations in AFP can be found in fatty liver, cirrhosis or even from chronic HCV. It should not be used as a tumour marker for HCC as only about half of the tumours secrete AFP. Normally, HCC causes a very high AFP. I would get it rechecked. AFP levels are most useful if you have a chart over time. only then can you say if the AFP is elevated.
