No it was at week 14 of treatment, my insurance required it, or they wouldn't continue to pay for treatment. It was then that they noticed that they didn't have me get a fresh biopsy before treatment and i guess they thought this would be easier on the liver while under treatment. They also required that my VL be under 43 by week 4 and ALT/AST to be normalized by week 16 before they would continue to pay. It looks like they spend most of my premiums looking for a reason to discontinue treatment.

Hi Mark, I presume you've finished Rx but you haven't posted your post Rx results? FibroTest (FibroSure in USA) is very unreliable during Rx. Weight is not use in the calculation for FibroTest- age and sex are, together with other serum markers and the unreliable GGT. Your results are correct- 0.46 Fibrosis Score is just below F2. Not sure about the ASH test. I had my FibroTest done in 2006. My Fibrosis Score was 0.58, which is at the F2-F3 level. However a Fibroscan done 6 months later showed definite cirrhosis (F4).

I recently had both a HCV fibrosure and ASH fibrosure done. The ASH test came back with a Fibrosis score of .46(borderline F1/F2) and a Steatosis score of 0.66-moderate Steatosis. The HCV test resulted in a 0.46(F1/F2) Fibrosis score and a Necroinflammat Activity score of 0.21(A0/A1). When I went in for testing they asked me how much I weighed, they told me it mattered and had to be within 5lbs of my true weight and I told the 205lbs and they wrote it down on the forms as 205lbs. I was just looking over the results again and they have my weight listed as 175lbs, not 205, a difference of 30 lbs. I'm wondering if the difference in weight would change the results and would the correct weight change the results for the worse or better. My Dr's office is 100 miles away and I hate to go thru all the trouble of seeing him if this dosen't change the results. Any insight anyone can give me would be very helpful.

Hi Mark, I looked up the ASH test just out of interest. It is a measure of Alcoholic Steato-Hepatitis and the formula does include your weight. So they got that one wrong! The Fibrosure Test (Fibrotest here) measures haptoglobin as one of the serum markers. This is changed by the ribavirin haemolysis so is unreliable during Rx with Peg and Riba. I guess if your Insurance accepted it, it doesn't matter. You guys in the US seem to have problems with Insurance Co's- here, the Private Healh funds do not interfere with Rx in any way.
Mark, I've moved this to General Discussion.
