Well, the source I had said geno 2 and 3 were the most common in France (I am looking for the link) and I was not surprised because most of the people on a french site for hepatite C belong to those genos 2 and 3.

After reading you, I made a researche on Google, and yes, I have found sources who says, like you, most genos in France are a1, then b1.

I do not know if it is ridiculous to say that most people infected by blood transfusion are b1, as 66.6 % of them are b1, not a1.

About me getting my SVR, I had the results for EOT week 4 yesterday night : und. My doc said "remember it's not finished yet". So I keep concentrated by eating a lot of healthy food, trying to keep calm.

Since I have discovered I was HVC+, I am really worried about my children if they have an accident and get some not efficiently check blood from countries where there is not enough technology and where to sell one's blood is legal.

You and I know what has happen recently with "horse meat" coming from a reither poor Euroepean country and sold in UK and France as beef meat. Well, it's the same for blood : goverments should make sure it comes from countries with enough technology and strong rules, to make sure it's safe.

There's no problem posting old references. Over the years, more data has changed earlier opinions, but I enjoyed reading the stuff you posted. As long as the date of the article is printed and Members are aware that some stuff has changed with more research, there isn't a problem.

Do, Geno 1 is the most common in France, with 1a and 1b being pretty much equal. There are countless references, but I have included just one. Obviously, if you get a blood transfusion from some-one with Geno 1a, you will develop Geno 1a HepC. The claims about 1b being the 'transfusion' hepatitis are ridiculous.  When I found out I was Geno 1b (back in the 1990's), I was told this was the IV drug-user's disease. This really annoyed me, until I realised that this was rubbish. Don't worry about it, just get your SVR.

        if I remember me correctly, it was a full-fledged scandal in France. It was possible to prove the officials, that they must had known of infected blood.

Not in Germany, the officials are used to whitewash their reputation. So only the victims of Contergan get a small income.

In a report of the WHO is written, that they are anxoius about the world wide blood business and the fear of blood from doubtful origin.

        we don't know the givers of the blood.

Up to the beginning of hiv, in germany  blood givers got 40 DM, that corrosponded with a salary once a day.

Cities like Hamburg are melting pots all nationalities, and not only a few gave their blood in some kind of income. From then on blood givers don't get money anymore. 

Simplified in germany the meaning is: people with GT3 are junkies, GT1b is most common, GT2 is very seldom, and with GT1a the "hcv-giver" was an american.

According to the statistic, people elderly as 50 have often GT1 (2), younger GT3.

Malcolm, I apologize for the dates on that link. I had found several pertinent links and I couldn't get the links to post to the forum. I got the one you read to post finally and had to make an unexpected trip back to my hepa's office for some unexpected blood work. I was unable to complete my post with the proper references. Please feel free to delete the post, I certainly didn't intend to post outdated data. It was to be used as a reference to that period of time and the global distribution available at the time.

Thanks for the link. Some of the data is old, from the 1990's, and some of the stuff is incorrect based on more recent publications. The 15% infection from sexual intercourse is too high, and the rate of progression to cirrhosis is no longer a straight-line curve. It's interesting to look back on how this disease was viewed 15 or more years ago. Cheers.

For people who have lost their jobs because of this contamination, it's a good help for a while. Is it the same in the States, Canada, UK, Germany etc ?

One has to proove they have received blood before 1991, then, to be b1 helps more.
