Lots of great comments here. Thank you
I do get very angry when this comes up, but in reality there's not much any of us can do. As passionate as any of us can get we will take their cure soon as we can. I will.
To feel so close to being cured and going back to the Joint pain, Fatigue , Edema etc. etc. every day again is a constant reminder of their greed. I can't help but think will it be there in time?
One thing I read between the lines is their greed may very well be the reason they are making progress. Who on this quest for finding a cure would care about us if there is no money in it? I've heard people say when waiting and praying for something real important. God is always appears late --- But always on time. I've seen this happen in my own life a few times . And after saying that, that's what I need to focus on, and it's going to feel so much better when I do get to take their greedy cure.
Peace and Patience

I am feeling some of the joint pain and fatigue myself, and had wondered if that had to do with HCV, or just part of getting older? Now I know! So I am looking forward to taking their greedy cure too. Hopefully in 2014.

Hey Mark
Your point is well taken and really true. I think most of us understand the expensive process of developing a new drug to bring to market.
My and many others complaint is the disgusting greed of Gilead and its board of directors and CEO, this is the point of contention.
Being greedy could be defined as a person who will not share even though they have abundance and the power to share for the common good, especially when they are exposed and the lives of people hang in the balance.

I'm sure I'll be tarred and feathered for this, but here goes. $11 billion is a lot of money to give for a piece of the pie. If I gave $11 billion for a partially developed, early phase, untested drug that I then had to perfect, test, market and then expose myself to the hugely litigious process of phase 1,2 and 3 testing. I'd want ever bit of the profit I could get also. "Greedy pharma" exists and develops new meds mostly in the U.S. for one simple reason...Profit. If there's not potential for profit, no new drugs will be developed. There's a reason you never hear of the next new "wonder drug" being developed in any country that has socialized or government run medicine. Because there's no way they could ever pay the huge costs for the development and testing process when the government controls pricing. These countries usually run 5 to 10 years behind the U.S. in the availability of new drugs because their governments have put cost ahead of public safety. They may do it under the guise of needing more testing to insure safety, but they're setting back waiting for the patient to expire or for some third world nation to nullify the patient and start churning out pills by the million.

Hi Mark !
Just wanted to say : here in France, Goverment pay 100% for long time deceases treatment, hepatitis, sida, cancer, diabet etc. And each patient is allowed to choose the treatment he wants, whatever expensive it is. When Gilead and AbbVie medicamentations will be on the US market, the Goverment will have it allowed here asap. There is even an option for medicamentations not being on the market, like Gilead's, to be bought by the Goverment, for a special patient fighting for his life if his doc beleives this treatment might save him. I know some people who could not get on trials had same medicamentation free here (ATU). I would not complaint about our Government saving money on people lifes, really.
However, no much new drugs are French, why ? because must of French "brains" are getting away from Europe to work in the States (better paid). French Labs having smaller budgets can't afford to pay searchers as much as American ones.
Also, for what I know, some of HCV Abbot's drugs have been bought to an Israelian lab, right ? That is why AbbVie Manager is Israelian, having studied and worked at Jerusalem Hebrew University, where the drug was created, even Israelian has Goverment run medecine.

I doubt this case will affect the drug being released, but well, seems like they are all as bad as each other. They can fight to the end, just release the meds and they can fight all they like! :D

Thanks for posting this one,
I have to read it over but it sounds like a lot of the company's looking for $$$
Should we be surprised? I wish all this would stop and they would be forced to put the drug out already. Settle up later. It should have been here already.
I wonder if one of these companies would make their Mother / Brother or Sister wait till they figure out the money? It must be just like the Aids victims felt. It wouldn't feel so bad if it was a safety issue with later on side affects. We want it to be safe. But really look what drugs we are doing now. I'm glad it's coming but these $$$ issues really get me going Thanks for listening

Hi Jim, yes indeed, that`s how it looks. And in some ways this is pay back time for Gilead`s greed in the first place. You`re familiar enough with the story...Gilead payed out $11 billion to acquire Pharmasset, and with it full ownership of sofosbuvir, but then turned their back on the collaboration with BMS with what looked like the best and most effective yet new all-oral combo of sofosbuvir and daclatasvir, just because they weren`t willing to share the potential profits.
Very sad that money seems to come first and patient health last where big pharmaceutical companies are concerned.

Hey all
Nothing changes through the years when someone / corporations see something that's going to be successful (cash cow) they want a part of it like a pack of wild dogs. The only difference is these dogs wear suits.
It's gotten better in the last hundred years in most of the world, because in the last 6 thousand years if you coveted something that could make you rich like Gold, oil, land, any natural resource then people and sovereign nations would invade , steal, and murder people in the process to get their hands on it.
Nearly every invading army throughout history had its motive that came down to greed and control.
This type of corporate greed is no different.
But let's be all honest about it, this greed / quest for the the big cash cow is what fuels the engine that drives the research for most all drugs that come to market, that surely does not excuse the big corporate presidents and CEO's from guilt for delaying the release of ground breaking Meds. so they can earn an extra billon dollars.
I estimate the cost of my Abbvie trial at around $35,000.00 with all the doctors, nurses, blood work, biopsy cost, ultrascans and countless other things I am not considering. Also that's not including any of the four drugs that I took, so it makes it even higher. I am one of hundreds in different HCV trials being done throughout the world. So to bring a new drug to market it takes millions and tons of possible future liabilities . Just notice the TV adds about lawyers willing to sue for you about a drug that used to be on the market.
The fact remains, the Gilead choice to discontinued progress of the combo that proved 100% effective revealed the perverted greed that man has achieved in the name of medicine.
So let the dogs of big Pharma rip each other apart , the problem is it will only slow down the future for other important drugs which could save lives.
Greed is Quite Shameful is it not

UPDATED: Merck demand triggers expanding patent war with Gilead over sofosbuvir
Gilead is rolling out its big legal guns to defend its control of the experimental Hepatitis C drug sofosbuvir,, one of the most valuable therapies in the industry's late-stage pipeline.
On Friday the company fired over Merck's bow, filing suit in the Northern District of California after Merck contacted the company a few weeks ago to stake a claim to 10% of the revenue generated by sofosbuvir. Merck wants Gilead to sublicense two of its hep C-related patents, according to the lawsuit. The pharma giant sells Victrelis (boceprvir), its recently approved hep C drug, which is likely to be swept away as sofosbuvir and companion therapies make it to the market, offering a treatment less likely to trigger side effects and quicker to quell the virus.
I am feeling some of the joint pain and fatigue myself, and had wondered if that had to do with HCV, or just part of getting older? Now I know!
So I am looking forward to taking their greedy cure too. Hopefully in 2014.
