I had a biopsy last May. I was not too pleased about getting one either. I have to tell you that the thinking about it is much worse than the procedure. They numbed the area and it was over before I knew it. There is a little shoulder discomfort afterwards but they gave me a Vicodin and I was fine. I had to wait 3 hours and they released me. It's really no big deal but when I was about to get mine it was a huge deal:) You'll be fine, no worries

Being nervous is understandable. I have anxiety too and things like that send it through the roof. I had a biopsy 13 yrs ago and they numbed me with three different length needles then did the biopsy. I felt some pain but nothing major. The numbing was the most uncomfortable. They didn't give me any pills or sedation of any sort. I had no complications..but do expect soreness for a couple days after. It's a fairly fast process..they made me wait 2 hours after the procedure to make sure all was well and then that was that. Not sure if they still do it the same way.

Thank you guys for your encouragement, I will definitly ask about the being awake while they do it thing, I hate not being able to take an advil for headache, I was instructed to NOT take any insaids 2 weeks prior to procedure.
I am ready to get this over with and work on getting over my anxiety to start treatment, I have been told that I have a really treatable genotype and I cant wait to start my life :)
Thank you again,
Michele

Hello Michele
I understand your anxiety I had the same wonderment about how it might be, but the reality is that it's quite quick and they typically localize the area of the biopsy. They also give a drug that almost knocks you out but you can still be part conscious during the operation.
The whole biopsy process is mostly setup and recovery very little time is spend in the actual procedure. You will be find it will be over before you know it.

Hi Michele,
I had a guided biopsy which is no athesthetic and just a numbing injecting so he could cut the skin to get the needle in. Perhaps this is an option for you to ask for? It is not completely pain free, but it feels a long the lines of an injection from the dentist. It was not horrific apart from the fact I saw the needle afterwards and nearly passed out at the size of it lol (I hate needles). I did have a bit of a shoulder ache after, but this is normal. I was allowed to go home after 4 hours after a couple of blood pressure checks. Good luck!

Hi Michele! I'm sorry you're having these health and anxiety issues but I'd like you to try and trust me that the procedure is an easy one. I've had multiple biopsies and they all went smoothly and without any complications whatsoever. The professionals in anesthesia today are very well trained and deal with the situations you spoke of on a daily basis. They know what they're doing and if you can put your trust in them you'll have an immediate release of the tension and anxiety you're worried about. They understand your worries, let them know to the letter how you're feeling and they'll provide you the support and understanding you need right now. The process is straight forward and is fairly basic. I didn't have any pain afterwards and went home within hours of the procedure. I even had one with a local anesthetic, I was awake through the whole thing. If that is something you'd like to consider, bring that to their attention and see if they're able to do that. But the procedures I slept through were immediate and easy. In, asleep, awake and on my way home! The medical staff have always been professional and very nice. Try to place your trust in them and it will be over before you know it. It may sound strange but if I could do it for you I would. I know it's safe and there is nothing to worry about!

I am haveing a biopsy done next week and I am very nervous, my genotype is 2b and they are comeing out with a new treatment after the first of the year to treat my specific genotype that dosent affect anxiety or depression because I suffer from both.......my liver tests are always normal and my viral load is relatively low, the only thing that shows I have hep c is a positive antibody, I do suffer from debillitateing fatigue but im not sure if thats due to hep c or my anxiety issues, I have health anxiety and I am really afraid to be put to sleep for the biopsy, they are going to use propofol because I was hard to wake when they used versed and demoral for a procedure 3 years ago (colonoscopy) this is what caused my anxiety actually.......please any encouragement welcome
