I am living with my gf for last 6 years. We always had unprotected sex  we shared toothbrush (and i have bleeding gums!)...and she is HCV negative. I wonder how much sex must be bloody for hcv transmission and how bloody my gums have to be? :)

I've been with my husband for 25 years.  his daughter and my 2 sons were toddlers when we met. my only exposure to hep c had to be from a large blood transfusion before we met. The entire family has surely had some blood to blood contacts over those years. Sharing razors, a camping trip with only one toothbrush between us, not to mention lots a cuts and scrapes and sharing food and drinks!  Never had protected sex. Everyone was tested two years ago when I was diagnosed and everyone else negative. 

If this new person in your life seems to be "the one" don't let hep c stop you. A lifetime with your true love is a rare and life changing experience.  Good luck to you.  You were smart to check out this forum for info

I was with my husband 11 years before I knew my diagnoses. We did share tooth brushes, razors, and nail clippers at points, we also had unprotected sex for 5 years and he is very much negative. People are just unlucky to catch it. :)

Hi Lia, welcome.  Malcolm (mallani) is right, the risk of catching Hep C through having sex is extremely low, and you don`t need to worry about sharing food and drinks with this guy either.  You can`t catch it through normal day to day domestic activities, only through `blood to blood` contact. 

If you`ve shared any of his personal hygiene items, for example toothbrush or nail clippers, their is a slight risk, but again it`s a very low indeed.  And that would only be if there were any particles of dried blood on them, and you had open sores or cuts for the virus to enter your bloodstream.

It might be a sensible idea to have a blood test done at some point, just for your own peace of mind, but I can`t see any reason not to carry on with your relationship.

i met the guy that i always dreamed of two months ago, and he told me few days ago that he has hepititis C and hemophilia , i am so worry about him and about my self. we had sex without any protection and once he bite my lips while kissing , i don't remember if i bled or not, but iam sure he didnt bleed.we shared food and drinks all the time. i  don't know what to do. shall i go on in this relationship? or just stay away?

It doesn't sound very likely that you've been infected with HepC. Sexual transmission is rare.

It can take up to 12 weeks before antibodies to HepC develop.  If you're worried, get your doctor to order a HCV Antibody test. Cheers.
