Hi Tig,
You are certainly right about screening for these diseases. Hepatitis virus has a long life outside the body and requires a very high temp to kill the virus. I am glad that it is finally getting some public recognition. Somehow, in our very "open" society, sexual preference and drug addiction/use are still "touchy" subjects for many. And, unfortunately, that includes some doctors, insurance companies and employers. Fortunately, now we have some effective drugs to combat both diseases.

Hi Susan,
Yes, that is a condition of this trial. I think if all health screenings, annual physicals, etc., included HIV, HBV and HCV screening, society would benefit greatly. With the advances in treatments, I believe we're at a time when significant headway can be made to stop the advancement of these diseases, as well as provide early diagnosis for people that might go decades without knowing they were carrying around a silent killer (HCV). We're seeing great strides made in treatment protocols, I hope we also see as much interest in early education too. It's starting and the new Gilead TV commercials are hopefully a sign of more things to come.

Hi Tig,
Think you have to be HIV positive as well as have Hep C for that Bristol Meyers trial. People with HIV are doing very well on the new meds. There were HIV positive people in my Merck trial. I was tested for HIV in my screening, I think for both trials I applied for and again during my Merck trial. It was about as relevant as a pregnancy test-- Been alone for years and I did test in the 80's when HIV first surfaced. After all, I lived in Los Angeles back then.
