My GI Dr. told me I can take an antihistamine and mucinex since I suffer with allergies etc. but to only take them 12 hr. before I take Harvoni. Can also take vit C same time. She said that antihistamines dehydrate you and can cause worsening headaches!! Sincerely; shorty

I am not sure if there are rules on naming brands here or not, but I'll take a chance and say that zycam works incredible, I used to use the nasal gel until they banned that, but now I use the rapid melts at the 1st hint I may feel a cold or bug coming on and I usually only need 1 dose and it works great , I have not had a cold or the flu ever since I started using it and i'll bet it's over 10 yrs...of course I'd rather have the cold than the current life long issues I have...but if the karma spirits could seen to it that I'm not asking for a cold too........ that'd be great !! LOL

Hi Tess, the only herbal product listed as not recommended to take while on Harvoni treatment is St John`s Wort, but I would say it`s best to check with your doctor before taking anything, especially herbal, as we don`t know what the potential interactions may be. Vitamin supplements are usually ok to take but even so it`s best not to take any supplements or OTC meds unless agreed with your doctor first.
Hi Ro, glad you`re feeling better now!

Hey Tig, I have good luck with those zinc products too. It would be nice to know if taking them is okay when on Harvoni. I wonder about Echinacea too.

When you speak to Gilead, or your doctor, ask them what their opinion is regarding the use of Zinc. I swear by it whenever I or my family has a cold coming on (or during). They make a specific Zinc product (several of them) designed for people coming down with a cold. It doesn't prevent the cold but I'm convinced that it reduces the severity and duration of the cold.

Thanks all! Still have cold, not as bad... Did not take anything... Gilead message was not returned yet
Guess it is the old saying: a cold lasts 7 days with treatment, a week without
Other than that, feeling fine!

Ro,
I caught a very nasty cold earlier in the week, first my wife got it and then me. I woke up with a sore throat
and almost the whole left side of my head, particularly my left ear, was hurting. I also had a slight fever. I took
2 Tylenol for the fever (didn't see anything about not taking Tylenol in the Harvoni prescribing info), but no
other medicine. Now I feel much better and hope you get well soon.

I am sorry you are not feeling well and I hope you get better soon. I also hope you are able to get through to someone from the Harvoni hotline. I called once for my husband expecting someone to be on the other line, but I was told to leave a message. This message was answered 3 days later!

Call Gilead's helpline 1-855-769-7284 is the support path number and they say they have nurses online 24/7. Hope you feel better soon.

Is there a doctor's line where you live where you can call for emergencies? I wouldn't take anything without talking to either your doctor or the pharmacy that filled the prescription. Pharmacists are usually available to talk on weekends and they have great knowledge about medications since that's all they really do. If you can't talk with your doctor talk to your pharmacist. I don't know much about Harvoni but I do know that it is best to consult the doctor or pharmacist before taking anything, plus, many cold meds have alcohol in them and anyone with liver disease should avoid it. Good luck.

I am coming down with a doozy of a cold..babysat my granddaughter and now we both have the runny nose, harsh cough etc. Does anyone know if one can take an antihistamine (Benadryl) along with Harvoni? It is the weekend, and doctors not available except for emergencies..doing the saline sprays, gargles etc.. But feeling quite uncomfortable..I know I was told no tylenol or ibruprophin....
