That's impressive, ~50 million euros on Sofosbuvir alone for patients to date (at Gilead's "retail" price).

Yes, it`s brilliant news, Tig and very forward thinking! Portugal isn`t a rich country and they`re still fighting their way out of the recession that has hit all European countries over the last few years so do this for all their patients infected with Hep C is very admirable.
Let`s hope this sets a trend!

That's fantastic news Jill! What a great decision by the country of Portugal. We can hope that other countries and governments will pay attention to this and follow suit. I can only imagine the joy and relief of the citizens of Portugal! Well done!

February 19, 2015 - `Innovative drug, Sofosbuvir, to treat hepatitis C is 100% subsidised in Portugal since Tuesday evening and will be given to all patients who need it. Alves said that an agreement had been signed with the laboratory that makes Sofosbuvir and the drug is now 100% state subsidised.
The Infarmed chairman said that all patients who needed the treatment would receive the drug and added that there are currently 602 receiving Sofosbuvir.`
