Hi John. So sorry to hear about the relapse also. I think you will have much, much, better sucess with the new nucleotides. I am glad it's over for you though. Look on the bright side as always, your not going to do interferon anymore. The new treatments are so much tolerable then pumping that "ice" in a needle in your body. You will do better this time as alot of us here know too. Keep in touch. Good Luck.

Yes you`re so right about the new drugs, John, nicely put! We`re moving into a new era of treatment now and it`s a wonderful thing to see so many people coming through and being able to ride that train to SVR.
The prescribing details for Harvoni state quite clearly that tx experienced people with cirrhosis need 24 weeks and your doctor should know that already, but if you need to insist then do it!
You must be very relieved that your wife is doing so well, is this her first treatment?
Ps- Yes, I`m doing well, thanks for asking, and have just come back from a little trip to Ireland!

Thanks Jill, yes am very happy its working so good for wife, only very minor side effects, and already undetected. I am going in this morning to see Doc and will shoot for the 24 week program, I guess its a cost saving plan to try the 12 weeks with the riba, and but this has consumed my life for the last few years and I want it over, as every one else here does. Thanks again, and hope every thing is going well for you, Glad to see the new drugs are working out so well for every one, its is amazing the progress they have made it the last couple years. Seems like the old treatments people were having to pull the train, now with the new stuff you actually get to ride it, lol . Am looking forward to it.

Oh John, I`m really sorry you`ve relapsed after all you`ve gone through.
I know it must feel like such a disappointment but the next round with Harvoni will do it and it will be so much easier. I agree with the others, you need 24 weeks to be sure of clearing the virus for good.
Congrats to your wife, you must be thrilled about her UND result after only 2 weeks, Viekira Pak works well and works fast!!
Keep your chin up, you did well getting through the incivek triple, it`s a punishing regime as we know.
Wishing you all the best...

Hi John, truly sorry to hear of the relapse. That's a real kick in the.........gut. As others have said, 24 weeks is the recommended tx for those with cirrhosis. If necessary I would push for it. Good luck

Hey John
Sorry to read of your 6 month lab report, as far as re-treatment being that you are cirrhotic and failed previous treatment 24 weeks would be what I would insist on. I would make the case that both the FDA guidelines on Harvoni and the AASLD recommend 24 weeks. Some doctors are using Riba with 12 weeks of Harvoni but the extra 12 weeks can make the difference for relapsed patients. With even some hard to treat patients like some of us on the forum ( myself included) include Riba with Harvoni for 24 weeks, with the clinical trials showing an 1% to 5 % increase in the SVR rates with RIBA added.

Hi John,
I certainly agree that you should insist on 24 weeks of Harvoni. Ro is a good example of how effective it can be after the full duration!
Good luck and keep us posted.

I also am 1a and cirrhotic. I have had the same experience with Incevik triple therapy.. undetected... then broke through and viral load went soaring. 2 years later I have completed 24 weeks of Harvoni 2 weeks ago...... I have been undetected since week 4..
Hope it all works out for you.

Hey John,
I'm sorry buddy, that's a tough one to take. You battled hard and lived through Incivek as well. Harvoni for a treatment experienced cirrhotic is 24 weeks. Riba may make a difference but over 24 weeks, I agree it's probably not necessary. There's a new protocol coming late this year or early 2016 from Gilead, Sovaldi and GS5816. It's already showing a lot of good results over 12 weeks of Tx. But should you get approved for Harvoni, I'd definitely want to go for 24 weeks.
Good luck John, I'm glad you let us know. Keep us updated and hang in there.

Hi John,
Very sad to hear the 48 weeks of Incivek triple didn't work for you.
As a treatment experienced cirrhotic, I'd want 24 weeks of Harvoni. Not sure the Riba is necessary. What are your platelets now? Cheers mate, you'll get there.

Hi John,
Really sorry for your relapse. It's happening.
12 wks Harvoni + Riba is not an official regiment.
Basically for treatment experienced patients Harvoni is prescribed for 24 weeks without riba (Gen 1). If your insurance company is OK with 24 wks - why not? My doctor says they prescribe 12 wks Harvoni +Riba in case the insurance covers only 12 wks. The final result is pretty same but better if you push for 24 wks Harvoni. Key phrase is "pretty same"...
Good luck!

just got my 6 month eot results after the 48 teleprevir/riba/interferon voyage. Hmmm seems it still isn't gone have an 80, 000 vl now. Docs have told me I will go on 12 week harvoni and riba. is this long enough of should I push for the 24 week? I was undetected after about 4 weeks on the teleprevir and throughout treatment so was sure I had it licked. Have cirrhosis, 1a. Any ideas on duration?
