How long does it take for viral load labs to come back?

Hi Everybody,
Thank you all for your responses. Riba does make patience difficult!
(DM - what a nightmare!)
We have access to the patient portal, and our CBC and METAB PNL results get posted the day of or day after our draw. But the VL...hopefully the old adage 'good things are worth waiting for' will hold true. We see the doctor for the 1st time since starting tx on Friday, so we'll definitely by then.
Glad we're finally seeing the doctor, cuz a few of my levels have dropped again: RBC 3.25; HBG 9.7; HCT 29.8; RDW 17; GLUC 159 (yikes!). But my ALT is 14 and AST is 17 so I'm pretty happy about that, and it'll have to hold me until the VL results.
On a different note, the weather has been beautiful here in northern Illinois, and we're spending a few days at the campground near our home. We have a seasonal site right next to a sweet little river. The 'campers' clear out on Sunday, so the place is pretty much ours! Makes the waiting easier and it's good for the soul!

Hi 3P: Using the portal from Lab Corp varries. All of my tests were posted in less than a week and included VL. UNTIL.......the second most important one ! It took 2 days and were seperate. Go figure. But what the hay. Thats why patience is needed right down to the end. Hang in there, I know you are anxious. The experience with Lab Corp will vary as others can attest to this.

Penny ,
you will probably get your results tomorrow or the next day. Things are much quicker than in the past and much easier to access.
Not like the bad old days....
I remember my first tx round nurse who was a complete botch. When I told her I wanted copies of my labs mailed to me , she said "thats not the way its done" and refused to do so. She pulled crap like this all the time and my doc finally had us sit down face to face to work things out and I unloaded on her cause she had hung up on me the day before.
Turned out she wasn't even a real nurse so I couldn't report her. She made my life a living hell for several weeks and fortunately was never ever to get her **** together enough to get my meds to me. I finally left, told the the doc it was due to his nurse and moved on to the University Med Center. Guess what ... 2 weeks later pretend nurse botch was fired.
Oh the joys of health care!

My blood draws were sent to Dallas (about 400 miles away). Blood was drawn on a Thursday, nurse called me on the next Tuesday with results and mailed me copies which I received a couple days later.
Now, I noticed when I was in the blood draw office there was a sign on the table describing how you could set up an online account and view your results just as soon as they have finished. I never could get this to work cause they asked stupid security (public records) questions about my boat, houses I have lived in, etc. I failed so many questions they said I had to send in a photocopy of my DL.
Anyway, you might want to see if you lab has this ability.
good luck!!

Hi Penny, it`s always an anxious time while waiting for viral load results but try not to stress.
When I was on tx, in the UK, I had to wait until my next hospital appointment in a month`s time before I heard my results, I couldn`t get them over the phone and no online portal either! I had to learn patience which wasn`t easy while on Peg/riba!!
Best of luck to you both, let us know when you hear..

Hi Penny,
They used to take up to two weeks back in the day, which made for some trying times waiting for results. There weren't as many labs that had the equipment and were qualified to do the tests. So they were shipped to able labs. Now it's much more available and can be drawn and returned in 3-7 days. I had all of mine done at Quest too and the nurse always called me before the portal had them.
I guess it may depend upon the lab but it always took around a week for my vl lab results from Quest. My doctor would always get the results before they became available on the Quest site. The results were auto forwarded to me on the practices portal. I would check with your doctor on Monday. Good luck

We had blood dawn on 8/17 for our 1st VL count since prior to SOT. I'm so anxious to see results. Can anyone give me an idea how long it takes for results? The lab guy thought we'd see something yesterday. No biggie, just anxious...
