I was right there with Penny. On treatment, mine went to about 140 then back to 97, 90, then off treatment and am still around 90. My family history shows us becoming pre-diabetic as we get older. My Doc was not concerned either during Tx.

Hi Mena,
On my 9/14 labs, the glucose was back down to 99. Doc didn't mention it, and I forgot I had wanted to ask him. I'm so glad Angelo had the A1C done, and the results were spot on! So much more reliable than just the glucose score.
All my best to you both,
Penny

Hi Mena,
I started viekira/riba on 7/20/15. My non-fasting glucose was usually in the 90's. Now it's all over the place, but my doctor has not mentioned anything about it. I plan to bring it up at my next appointment on 9/25.

Penny, just wondering how your sugar levels are holding up!
My husband had an A1C fasting blood test done and the result was 5.4 which is PERFECT!!!

Hi Mena,
There isn't a lot of scientific data on the effect Harvoni has on blood sugar, but a search on it will raise your suspicions. There are a lot of first hand remarks on the impact it has had on blood glucose levels. Seems that diabetics often see spikes in their levels and subsequently have had to deal with insulin and dietary adjustments to deal with it. I also see mention of the opposite happening as well. Seems some feel that as the virus is destroyed and liver function improves, so does the blood glucose. So it's hard to say how it will affect anyone. I'd venture to guess the jury is still out on this and will be until more proof is compiled by front line specialists, Gilead and the FDA. I will say that I would be very aware of the possibility and how it impacts Angelo's health and quality of life. Be sure you keep his doctors informed of any levels that are concerning and/or sharply elevated when home testing.

Hello everyone, just wondering if anyone else can relate to this. I was checking Angelo's blood results throughout the last 2.5 yrs. and I noticed that his sugar levels have been high then normal, then high again.
The last 5 x the results were as follows 98, 111, 147, 72,
His doctor never questioned any of the levels. His last result was 142 on a scale of 139 max for non fasting.
Last night I got a call from the nutritionist from Mt. Sinai who showed concerned over this result. She wondered if maybe he may be pre diabetic.
I just requested a script from his regular Hepatologist for a A1C blood test.
