An update effective Oct. 01, 2015 was made to the U.S. Medical diagnosis coding system. It's known as the ICD-10 or the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision. These are the codes your doctor must use when submitting your records to insurance for reimbursement. If these codes are not correct, your claim will be denied and returned to your provider for correction. Sometimes they get lost in the shuffle and you end up with a bill for services rendered. If this should occur, be sure that these new coding requirements were used by the physician. It's going to take time to get this all ironed out. So be aware of it and check your paperwork or ask the billing agent if you experience any billing problems.
