The biggest difference for me is the anemia. My counts went pretty low on the triple to the point that I looked like a ghost and lived on boost and bread. Harvoni with it's quirky sides is much much easier.

A crushing difference Scruffy. We're continuing to witness people suffer from lingering effects of the old SOC's and now the unknown complications of the new protocols. The advances have been significant, yet there is still much to accomplish. We are all pioneers, some of us have reached our destination, some are just getting started. But faith tells me we will all achieve our goal of SVR, come hell or high water! We'll do it together, that's a promise...

If you look at the posts in this thread from 2-3 years ago you will see a big difference pretty much a life changing difference for many.

Amen Mike. Now lets get you fixed up...8 more weeks!
All the best to everyone on treatment, considering it and also those living with someone who is battling through this.

The depression caused by the riba was what affected me most. I'm now on week 16 of 24 with Harvoni alone and don't have any depression nor any other Sx significant enough to complain about nor even blame on Harvoni alone. It would make me feel guilty to complain today when I think about all the people who got dragged through extended treatments with the old, non-DAA regimens, often without success. Many of my friends lost their battle over the past years. I am thankful for what we have as a result of all the trials and errors and will be ecstatically grateful when I get that SVR report. But the memories of old will remain. May they rest in peace.

Hi Kalela, like you I did the interferon and riba but was much younger on this attempt. The riba can do strange things to the mind and psyche, Hopefully it will become a thing of the past.....but for now, some must endure. Fortunately the courses of treatment are becoming shorter. Good luck, we'll all be doing the happy dance when you reach SVR.

When I think about my experience with interferon/Ribivarin vs. Harvoni it is amazingly different. I can remember the extreme loss of memory to the point where I would be driving in my car and be on the freeway and completely forget why. I took no time off from work and I worked 6 days a week. Have no idea how I managed that. Depression and insomnia, aches and pains, complete loss of me a person. I remember giving away all my feminine clothes because I didn't feel like a woman anymore. I am an artist and it took nearly a year after treatment to feel the least bit creative again. I gave away much of my art and designs because I was angry and very sad. Not all people have the same kind of side effects or intensity as I did, but I had a great online support group that I was plugged into every day. I was terrified to try another treatment, so here I am 6 yrs later and into my 10th week of 24 with Harvoni. Although I am experiencing one side effect of joint pain, I still consider this a dream vacation compared to the first journey from hell.. Kalela
