I have had pain in the RUQ for several years now which started after I had my gall bladder removed. Mostly it just aches without any obvious reason why.
For several years I took Mebeverine which was prescribed initially by my liver specialist. It is great for reducing gas and discomfort in the gut. I don't take it any more as I started to take digestive enzymes before eating. The enzymes have made a big difference to both the discomfort and the liver ache.
I don't think Mebeverine is a commonly used medicine as when I was in hospital a while back most of the Drs and Nurses had not heard of it. I buy the digestive enzymes from a health food store.
Hope you find something that works for you!

Hey Joanne
Nice to hear from you, what Tig said might be worth some consideration, sounds like you might need a colon cleanse or a way to clear out the gassing issue. Colon Hydrotherapy / colonic / enema could help. I recently had my first colostomy via my Gastro doctor and that whole procedure helped my gas issue tremendously and will give you peace of mind. I also recommend Activated Charcoal as its use can cover a whole range of woes. At the very least schedule an appointment with your Gasro. Doc.

Hey JoAnneh , I get that if I get constipated and gassy. I know its not polite conversation but, increase veggies and fluids and maybe take a daily Senokot , make sure to increase fluids; Equate walmart brand way cheaper . Could be gas or stool causing pressure . I just know it works for me . And its not my gallstones either. If I drink to much coffee , I get nausous , too. Green tea may be the way to go. I do both. Hi Joanne,
Nice to see you again, but sorry it's due to some difficulty. I also have the RUQ pain at times. If it's due to gas, then that fits. There is a loop of large bowel that extends into that area and if you're suffering from a lot of gas, that might explain it. Omeprazole will control excess stomach acid, but doesn't do well at controlling gas. Have you tried the OTC medication called GasX? Another is charcoal. It can be purchased through health food stores and some pharmacies in capsule form. It can make a big difference.
If you haven't seen your doctor or called your Hepa in a while, it might be a good time to run this by them. I hope you get to feeling better soon. This is the wrong time of the year to be limiting sweets! Good luck and stay in touch. We're here for you!

Is anyone having pain in their liver area? I feel a lot of pressure at times. I have to wear loose clothing when pressure is bothering me. Feel nauseated often and lots of indigestion after eating....really bad if I eat sweets. Also, if I eat salty food my lips get chapped and burn. I have started cutting back on sodium. Can't drink coffee anymore either.
I take Omeprazole every morning for gas. It doesn't seem to help. I dont need to loose anymore weight either. I am trying to eat 6 small meals a day-- not to overload my liver but it's not always easy to follow while working.

Anyone else going thru this? Any suggestions?
