Hi Hepgirl and a warm welcome from me also. As you can see you won't be feeling alone around here and although we all deal with a dreadful disease, we defeat it as a team and even have some fun doing it. Make yourself at home and feel free to ask any questions you have. We are interested to know more about your situation with HCV, when do you plan to start Harvoni, what have you been told by your doctor concerning fibrosis stage, viral load and liver function test results. We have a seat just for you on our Harvoni train so let us know when you're ready to jump on board.

Welcome to the forum Hepgirl. You have certainly found a great place. I started my Harvoni on Tuesday so I have taken my third one today.
It seems that us Canadians are slowly starting to find this place. That was a great commercial Gracie and I commend you for typing it all out. I will just post it
I hope everyone has a great day! It's freezing here but we are rough tough cream puffs so we don't complain... in public.

I'm Canadian. From the snowy east coast. Welcome aboard. I've finished harvoni and hopefully on my way to SVR. As a fellow Canadian, I feel obligated to post this rant which was quite famous here a couple of years ago. Done by the Molson Canadian beer company oddly enough... Good for a laugh.
I Am Canadian...
I'm not a lumberjack, or a fur trader.... I don't live in an igloo or eat blubber, or own a dogsled.... and I don't know Jimmy, Sally or Suzy from Canada, although I'm certain they're really really nice.
I have a Prime Minister, not a president. I speak English and French, not American. And I pronounce it 'about', not 'a boot'.
I can proudly sew my country's flag on my backpack. I believe in peace keeping, not policing, diversity, not assimilation, and that the beaver is a truly proud and noble animal. A toque is a hat, a chesterfield is a couch, and it is pronounced 'zed' not 'zee', 'zed' !!!!

Hey, I'm old! or at least feel that way sometimes. Welcome to the forum gurl. A great place for those dealing with a nasty virus. From a clinical perspective there doesn't appear to be any contraindication for Harvoni and methadone. Because of the cost, in the States many docs and insurances won't treat with Harvoni until a person is clear for a specified time. Perhaps different in Canada eh? Good luck on getting started, the fine folks here helped me on my Harvoni train ride. Be well.

Hi Lin,
Welcome to the forum! As far as I can determine, there is no interaction between Methadone and either component in Harvoni. When you get ready to begin treatment, you will be required to discuss any and all medication that you currently take with your doctor (of course), and the specialty pharmacist usually will talk to you about it. I was on Methadone during treatment, different protocol, but it's not unusual at all for people to be taking various meds before and during treatment. They have spent a lot of time researching these combinations and any drugs that don't mix are generally listed on the drug monograph.
Please let us know more about yourself. You're among friends and a few jokers too! We have a great bunch here and I'm glad you found us. Stay in touch!

I'm the resident Smoothie expert ... NOT, more like a Smoothaholic ... but I do like makin' 'em, they seem to help me stave of the side effects, or at least temper them a lot ... then again, I'm taking "Ribavirin" with Sovaldi and the sides with Riba do need some tempering occasionally.
According to This Site: (But always check with your Doctor, I do not know the validity of this website so please verify ... and of course, it against this website's policy to give any medical advice and all moderators will/ should advise you to ask your doctor.)
Drugs without Clinically Significant Interactions with Harvoni
Based on drug interaction studies conducted with the components of Harvoni (ledipasvir or sofosbuvir) or Harvoni, no clinically significant drug interactions have been either observed or are expected when Harvoni is used with the following drugs [see Clinical Pharmacology (12.3)]: abacavir, atazanavir/ritonavir, cyclosporine, darunavir/ritonavir, dolutegravir, efavirenz, elvitegravir/cobicistat/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide, emtricitabine, lamivudine, methadone, oral contraceptives, pravastatin, raltegravir, rilpivirine, tacrolimus, or verapamil. See Table 4 for use of Harvoni with certain HIV antiretroviral regimens [see Drug Interactions (7.2)].

Good, you got it gurl!
I'm sure one of the moderators can help you figure out the Methadone thing but yes, we have quite a few members from Canada Eh!
Below are a couple more links that may be of help:
Once you get used to the site, you can add some information to your Signature if you like, it helps others know where you are in treatment, stage of fibrosis, Viral Load, GenoType etc. (if you've been tested yet). It also will keep people from asking you the same questions every post (we forget individual's information sometimes, quite a few people on the site).
Welcome to the forum, glad you made it here. This site is a gold mine of very good information and everyone here is very helpful.
You'll see people before treatment (Tx), people on Tx and those who've been through Tx.
Dave

Here's an article from Hep Magazine regarding Methadone with HCV treatment, short but sweet.
