Your Lab is using the common Roche RNA VL test. The Quantification range is 15- 100 million I.U./ml.
Your VL is 2.65 million I.U./ml.

It's a very odd way of reporting the reference range. I don't recall ever seeing it written like that. Makes sense though. At least your explanation, RC...

Hi RC,
Well that lab report was clear as mud until you explained it ... thank you for that!
I do think it's a odd (actually ambiguous would be a better word) way of reporting viral load, but I guess that's why I don't make the BIG bucks ... lol.

2650000 Reference range: NOT DETECTED Unit: IU/ML
2650000 is his load. reference range Is a representation of normall results, so not detcected would be normall results.

Eric,
Here's some information on the viral load testing and additional information in general. If you have any questions, please ask. There is always someone close by that will talk with you about it. A lot of the information you'll find online now is dated and constantly changing. Things, like how low they can test for viral count has dropped dramatically. Keep the dates of any articles you might read in mind. Many of the new drugs, like Viekira Pak and their results are just now being compiled, so you may not find everything you're trying to find yet. It's not like the old days when we went 10-20 years with no advances in care. Now they're happening fast, you found out you had it at the right time in history! These are very effective treatments!
Ok I posted in the new member section sorry if I posted in the wrong spot no they have no said anything about Ribavirin

Hi Eric,
Welcome to the forum! This is the section for introductions and I'm sure you'll be warmly welcomed by everyone.
I have to ask you, why does your viral load (RNA) have both a quantified viral count and say UNDETECTED? That's very odd to see them listed together like that. If the undetected reference was placed there in error, that's something you should find out about. That could be very confusing if it happened during treatment. The 2,650,000 IU/ml is the same as the 6.42 Log, they don't use the Log format much anymore but it seems to remain listed on many test forms.
Viekira Pak is a very effective protocol, with a good rate of success. Since you are starting treatment for the first time, you should do well. Has your doctor mentioned whether or not they will include Ribavirin in your treatment? If you could tell us a little bit more about your history, it will help us provide better informed opinions. Do you have your blood test results, such as the ALT, AST and CBC? Have you had a biopsy or fibrosis stage determined recently? That will help us as well. I'm including a couple of links to start. One is the V Pak website and helps explain it from the manufacturers viewpoint and Shadowfax has provided the link to our discussion thread here. I'm also including a link to our Signature line/Abbreviation information. If you add your history to your signature, like most of us have done, it will save us having to ask you for it each time and you having to repeat it. It's up to you of course.
I'm glad you're here and look forward to celebrating your success when it comes, and it will! Good luck!!
Glad you found us. There is new members thread that you may want to introduce yourself in and here is a thread devoted to the protocol you are about to go on.
You have found a great forum. You will find lots of people here pre/post treatment and very willing to help.
6.42 Unit: Log IU/ml THIS SPECIMEN WAS TESTED BY THE ROCHE DIAGNOSTICS HCV REAL-TIME PCR ASSAY. THE RESULT GIVEN ABOVE IS THE NUMBER OF INTERNATIONAL UNITS (IU) OF HCV RNA PER 1 ML OF PLASMA (VIRAL LOAD). CHANGES OF THREE FOLD (0.5 LOG) OR MORE FROM THE BASELINE LEVEL ESTABLISHED FOR A PATIENT ARE SIGNIFICANT WITH REGARD TO PREDICTING DISEASE PROGRESSION AND MONITORING EFFICACY OF ANTI-VIRAL THERAPY. THIS ASSAY IS NOT INTENDED FOR DIAGNOSTIC USE. RESULTS FROM THIS ASSAY SHOULD ONLY BE USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE PATIENT'S CLINICAL PRESENTATION AND OTHER ESTABLISHED LABORATORY TEST. REPORTABLE RANGE: 15-100,000,000 IU/ML 1.18-8.00 LOG10 IU/ML PERFORMED AT COMPUNET CLINICAL LAB;
I am about to start Viekira Pak hoping for good results any info would be great to know what to expect I don't know a lot about this
