Congrats on the SVR Dawn. Yeah it takes time to feel better but as Tig said keep pushing the fluids. Another suggestion I have is get a massage, it helps keep things moving and then by drinking water flushes what was loosened. My period has gone wacky too. Thank you menopause lol. If you can get some exercise in that will help too. If you don't like to exercise, just walk and stretch. we never hearing things take time, but most importantly you are cured. And you will feel better....

Hiya Dawn!
Little sister let me tell you, the fact is you are doing FANTASTIC!
I did the V-Pack/RBV and it literally put me on a cane, robbed me of some 63 pounds, and at the end of the day, FAILED, CRASHED and BURNED, and to just be spiteful, added some RAV's for good measure.
That day, a Day that will go down in infamy, is fast approaching the 1 year anniversary along with the realization that I would have to start over with something else...but what?
I had to put a strong appearance forward here so as not to dissuade anyone away from this marvelous cure, but the fact remains, I was quite a mess.
Fast forward to today, another treatment plan behind me, and yes SVR remains the sweet smell of final victory in my home.
Dawn you never before saw yourself in the light I see you.
You my Dear, are a Warrior and you have defeated the enemy.
You do not need at this time to be 100%. You need to be what you are. A Victorious Warrior, and a light for those to follow.

Thank you that really helps i am so happy you are cured and recovered that is awesome and I am always grateful for advise and to hear others experience. Again I would not have made it without all the kindness and encouragement from this forum I hope that others who are struggling find this because it has been a huge part of my treatment and recovery. You are so right that nobody can truly understand unless they have walked in your shoes and I think that is why this place is so great and hope that others can be helped as much as I was and still am. I probably would have gave up if it was not for all the support I received here and there was someone always there to answer all my questions and concerns I am thrilled you are all doing well and can never say thank you enough talk to you soon Dawn

Hello Dawn, how great to see you news! Congratulations on SVR12!!
It certainly does take a few months to fully recover from any treatment which includes riba, that`s quite normal, so do your best to look after yourself while you`re still recuperating. I think most of us have high expectations of how soon we`ll start feeling better, I know I did, but knowing at this point that it`s worked and the virus has gone is truly wonderful and makes it all so worth while!
Thanks for stopping by and please keep in touch with how things are going for you... good to hear from you again!

Well, Dawn,
Everybody is different, but yes, it can take a while. I was so pessimistic that I had get the boost of an an antidepressant, which helped immediately. I continued to bounce back using water, exercise, and friendship. After 3 months I started feeling pretty much more like my old self. Just yesterday, I was walking in a forest and told my friend how thrilled I am to be able to get out and enjoy it, too. A year ago, it was just too hard and I didn't know why. Fortunately I was diagnosed and treated and cured. 6 months EOT, I'm really just trusting that it's gone. If I have a period of fatigue, I try to respect my healing by giving myself a break and a nap. I don't know if the hormonal part is related, but remember that you have put your body through a lot. I really do think that it will get better. Tig's right, continuing massive water is still very helpful.
It's frustrating isn't it. When I was diagnosed, I thought I would take some pills and then feel good again, kind of like an antibiotic. This is bigger, but not bigger than you.
Feel free to check in whether you or feeling good or bad. I really counted on the kindness of strangers to get me back on my feet. Nobody gets it more than someone who has been through this. It's bizarre how unique it is.
Keep stepping up. Be disciplined with your health (as you have been). One day you will find that you have waited it out.
Warmly,
Cheddy

Hey Dawn,
It takes awhile to get beyond the post treatment issues. The Riba takes the longest, about 6 months, sometimes longer. The Riba fatigue, irritability and anemia often take longest to resolve. It does improve on a regular basis, so expect it, just not overnight.
Continue with a good diet and plenty of water. Keep things flushing! It helps. Stay active by walking and stretching. It may help the legs recover, but go slow. I need to heed my own advice. I do understand the discomfort. Talk with your doc next time if it doesn't improve in a reasonable amount of time.
Good luck!! Stay in touch

The effects from the riba have eased up but i am still kind of moody but as i said the leg pain is bothering me the most so far i dont think i am anemic which is really strange since before treatment it was a constant battle and yes i gained eight pounds back so i guess my appetite is back lol I hope you are all doing well let me know how it is going for you and thank you for your kind words and as always your support . Hi Dee,
Lovely to hear back from you, with your wonderful news! EOT+12 SVR!!!!!!!!!
Way ta go girl. Huge congrats.
You were winning this VL battle early, but it IS such a reward to get that EOT+12 UND!!
We know that treatment was not easy for you, and you toughed it out SO well. Brave and strong person!
The drugs worked superbly for you, my only wish is that it could have felt easier for you.
Well ... you are finished now ... riba under the bridge (so to speak), I am not recalling your exact end date, but roughly, I believe you are beyond EOT+12, so, can you let us know how it felt as the riba ebbed away after EOT. When did it start decreasing for you, how quickly do you think the riba dissapated from you after EOT?
I hope you are feeling better. Did you ever gain any of the weight you lost back? Did you ever determine if you were anemic?
Do let us know how you are faring.
So happy you are already at your lovely UND SVR 12! C.

I will be shocked when i get my blood work done if i am not anemic you are probably right but should find out soon. I hope you both are feeling good and things are going well talk to you soon Dawn

Ah yes, I forgot the part where people don't know you when you go from being super hero to a tired person in need. I think it's good for them too. It helps them become better at being equal citizens. They just don't get what you are going through and it may not hurt to shift the reality a bit. Why shouldn't you say no? I felt guilty about my mood but, give yourself a break. You haven't done anything wrong. Applaud yourself for getting through this difficult time. As time goes by, you will all get better.
Sorry it feels rotten now but it isn't your real self. If you keep feeling too bad, consider a low dose of antidepressants for a bit. Life is too short to feel rotten. I really do have faith that this will pass. Not only that, you will be cured and feeling even better.
Oh, in case you forgot, drink your water!

Hi Dee,
so glad you have got to the end of treatment and dont have to put anymore of that stuff in your system. You could be anaemic, especially as you have lost so much weight, but on RIBA that level just seems to go down and down.
We are lucky aren't we, to have this forum where people not only give great advice but also where others really understand the physical and emotional ups and downs we all seem to share. My son and his girlfriend life with me and I know they had an idea of what I was going through, but the rest of the family didnt and didn't seem to want to. One of the changes which has happened to me since beginning treatment is that I can (sometimes) distance myself from value judgements. So it was just a lesson learned.
I felt the toxic RIBA effects sliding out my ears almost immediately after I finished it. There is a residual effect that lasts for ages but the feeling that it's building and building up inside you just turns into the opposite.
Take care.
Syd

Thank you all so much I think I needed to lose the twenty pounds I was average weight but felt I could stand to lose some but everyone has told me I look ruff and sick lol but the mood swings have been awful seemed to get worse the last three weeks of treatment and still really bad since the end of treatment I want to rip everyone's head off but hopefully it will get better as you all said with time. I am going to take everyone's advice and just try to relax a little more I have been on full speed everything through all of this so I am sure that has not helped .Thank you all again for helping me through this I would have never made without all of your support because NOBODY understands except all of you. My family apparently could not help much or give me a break because I always push through even when I feel like crap so even when I get annoyed it is my own fault for trying to be super women so they are not used to me needing rest but I think at least for a little I am going to have to learn to say no. I appreciate you all getting back to me because I was getting worried I feel like this because its back but you have helped ease my mind and I will see how my next blood test come out soon hopefully .I am going to the doctor on the third so I will be crossing my fingers, Thank you all so much I hope you are all doing well and feeling good Dawn

Hi Dawn,
Congrats on finishing treatment, well done! After 12 weeks of V Pak and Ribavirin, you're likely a bit anemic. Ribavirin is well known for that. Couple the anemia, weight loss, less than stellar nutritional intake and inadequate hydration, there's no wonder why you feel like POO. There are some good recommendations provided by the group here, do your best to follow their lead, they know about such things.
The road to recovery is longer than we sometimes believe, but don't despair, it will come.

Hi ladies,
Many people have problems coming off riba, and others not. It takes 6 months to evacuate the system. A lot of people feel quiet bad still for at least a month and then every day improvements. Gentle exercise, healthy food and plenty of flushing improves this. You have to build up strength as the tiredness and lack of activity results in some muscle loss, and that alone causes aches and pains. If you still are struggling with mood issues, or slight depression, then please see a doctor for anti-depressants if you are not on them already. A lot of people are suprized they still have emotional affects afterwards. It is however normal as the drug is still active in the system.
Either way, congrats on getting through this, you have saved your liver and overall health and life begins again. :D x

Hi Dawn,
So happy and relieved to hear you finished the viekira!!
Congrats on a hard job well done! Brave girl.
So sorry to hear about the weight loss, and about you feeling bad tho. Were you of normal or average weight to start? 20 lbs. is a fair drop!
The water thing is SO true, it IS a hard thing to learn, or to believe, or to make yourself do (sometimes) until it it too late!!
Err on the side of the advice of so many who have learned the hard way ... flush your system - it works, it really does help.
Some of the viekira drugs seem to have cruel sides. The upside is that this drug combo has contributed to your cure, the downside side-effects WILL abate.
Hopefully you will start feeling the sides lessening soon. Hang in there. Drink water! LOTS of it! Keep working on figuring out what gentle nutritious good foods you can tolerate to build your strength and weight back up. The weight loss and the lack of water itself may well be adding much to your discomfort. It is not an easy juggling act to find a balance in these factors, the factors that hasten your recovery, but strive for it. Keep treating yourself, as well as you possibly can, with rest, safe/mild exercise, good nutrition, and water.
Whew - your finally finished!! YAY! Congrats!
I hope you start to feel better soon, steadily, day by day. C.

Yep, the riba can stick around for 3 - 6 months or so. I think I've flushed it already by continuing to load water. I really think that the green smoothies have boosted my nutritional needs as well. Search smoothies on this site for that. I feel confident that you will feel much better in a couple of weeks. I'm almost 10 weeks EOT and am shocked by how good I'm feeling. Hang in there and keep reaching out.

Hi Dawn,
Congrats on EOT! Great Job!
The Ribavirin can linger a long time and side effects from that tend to ebb and flow.
Are you continuing to drink a LOT of water, you should ... you'll want to keep up with that.
Things are most always a little rocky at the end of treatment, you've been taking some powerful meds and they're still in your system. Just give things time, eat regular and drink that water.

Hi Dawn,
Good to hear from you, so glad to hear that you are still UNDETECTED ... what excellent news!
Hang in there, the Riba is moody one ... just remember to keep drinking WATER, water and MORE WATER, LOL, it does help.
I'm finding I still need to keep drinking 3-4 liters per day even 2 months after EOT. It's the key to lessening the side effects and keeping you properly hydrated.
Hope to hear more from you soon.

Gotta say, I feel so much better when I know that I'm not alone in the riba torment. It's hard to remember that it really is just the drug. Chemistry is powerful (thankfully) and I am sometimes ashamed of my behavior and despair, as if I am in full control of. But, I've learned a lot about triggers and self control. Good news - I'm 2 1/2 week post treatment and doing waaaay better less stuck. I thought I had lost my old self, but I have good spirits in sight. Gotta say thanks again to the club we have here. It's not reasonable to feel that family and friends would know what it's like. I know I sure didn't.

LOL you are so funny It is great that you have kept humor after all you have been through.I will definitely be looking forward to that relief although I am kind of high strung even without riba. I am pretty far behind as far as cell phones go I have had a flip phone forever and it was dying so my kids got me a smart phone trying to be nice but I have no idea how to work this thing and I am hoping not to send it flying lol I can't believe something that should be simple is driving me crazy they said I should get the hang of it in a few days but with the patience I do not have I am not so sure but it was a nice thing for them to do and they think it is hilarious that I don't have a clue about these kinds of phones. Well today was a much better day no tears or temper tantrums so I guess I can be happy about that. Hi Dawn,
six weeks? Half way? It's a count down now. the day I stopped taking riba it was like pulling a plug out of a bath. I could actually feel the effects lessening..it definitely hangs around in clouds and then wisps for quite a while, but you will feel much better after the first week off it.
And yes, I understand about the son thing. I told my 24 year old son thar riba would probably have an effect on me and then tried to describe how I felt as it kicked in, but the slightest change in my reaction to stuff that happened would result in him saying accusingly "that stuffs really messing you up". And I wanted to yell back "no s.:$ Sherlock", but usually had a quiet weep instead.

Hi Dawn,
how many weeks in are you now? Dave and a number of others have always been great ones for count downs and count ups. They do help remind you that this is a journey with an end point.
Your Riba symptoms probably won't get much better until you're off treatment. I feel pretty back to normal now except for the road rage which happens virtually every time I get into the car. I feel my left eye begin to twitch and then the monologue begins. I can tell other drivers what manners are, what a queue is, what trying to move into my lane will mean (except when I have graciously waved you in in front of me), how many brain cells they lack and all from inside my Toyota RAV4 4 which packs a mean punch with its v6 engine. Okay, you had me pegged as a little old lady - and maybe I am - I just dont freakin drive like one so if you value the drivers side of your car, use the brake. My number plate starts with the letters ZEN but theres a lot more vooming than ooming happening in it.
My daughter called me the town crier when I was on riba because I couldn't talk about anything - from how crap I felt, to what a beautiful rose bud that is- without bursting into tears. The kid over the road smashed my rear vision mirror with his basket ball. I had to go out and tell him and his dad what the difference between a bb court and a street was. They don't talk to me now....
It WILL be over.
Syd
ps. Make over sounds like a plan. I guess I'm still in riba land in that area as variations on PJs are my stock in trade now. Hell, I'm invisible out there on the street. I can't remember the last time I got a glance that meant anything more than hey here's another bloody obstacle I have to push my trolley around. This is really sad if you want to be hit on by someone in your own age group. In my case these are all doddering, hairy eyebrowed specimens with their pants held up by belts just under their nipples. i reckon the only hard thing you'd find on them would be a hearing aid, and besides most of them are trailing meekly behind grim women with broad beams and moustaches.
Long live the PJs I say.

Ha Ha,
Going to the store in PJ's brings back a funny memory of first time on treatment when my husband would take me to Braums (classic ice cream store in TX,) all I could muster was keeping the PJ top on and putting on jeans! Of course, no one cared as a beautiful transvestite came in the store, dressed in very sexy clothes, (she may have been "working"). I laughed thinking that anyone would notice I had pj tops on!

Good morning Dawn,
Thanks for the friendship and update! It's nice to see things are going well for you. The moodiness is just about unavoidable while you're saddled with Ribavirin and all of it's baggage. Do your best to avoid the things that trigger the emotion. Easier said than done sometimes but you can do it! One thing you should avoid is shopping in the big box stores. You mentioned going out with bed head and wearing PJ's, is that your Walmartian disguise? Wear a big pair of sunglasses and nobody will recognize you! Just keep working on your goals and the goodness will follow...

I have had some of the same problems as you are experiencing and wanted to stop so many times but as soon as you get your blood work done and I know and will be praying it will be undetected it will really keep you going. The rage is really the hardest to deal with but going away from the situation if you can is the best thing you can do I do that as well. I have had some crazy moments but talking about It on here really helps. If you need anything or want to vent I will help in any way I can. That is awesome that we can finish this out together I think it will help us both. and the good news is there is always someone here to help with things we don't understand. I am glad you found this forum it has done wonders for me and I know it will do the same for you. Please keep me updated how you are feeling and how you are doing. I had to straighten out my life and could not fall apart for them I do believe everything happens for a reason just figuring it out is the hard part I think we are all to hard on ourselves for our mistakes and our pasts but had we not have done some screwing up we would not be the people we are today and I can tell that everyone on here Is strong, compassionate and a blessing in someone's life. The encouragement that you have all shown to complete strangers even though you have no obligation to do so has saved someone's life just your kindness has talked someone off the ledge or made them not feel so alone. You are all very special people and I just hope you know you are a blessing in someone's or many peoples lives. Thank you for the congrats and we will all get there together Dawn p.s. I will keep you updated on the furniture and see what I have left in 3 month lol

Thank you wendyo I really appreciate the advise I will try it all lol. I hope you are doing well and I also owe you a huge thank you for all your support through my treatment. I am glad it is over hopefully and i am hoping my legs will get better soon it gets pretty bad at times it is so strange but like you said I should be thankful I am still undetected. I would love to hear how you are doing thank you checking in talk to you soon Dawn
And you will feel better....
wendy
Oh Dawn I am there. SVR12 post 2nd treatment with Harvoni. I just want to make sure you and folks like you know you are NOT alone and there are many of us who have been there and done that who will be here to extend a hand to our brothers and sisters!
I am not leaving The Friends. That we are a family is branded on my soul.
JimmyK
Thank you so Jimmy , they makes me want to cry you are such a wonderful and selfless person to keep helping and encouraging everyone including me and you have been through so much devastation my prayers are with you because you deserve to be cured and i am sorry you are having such a horrible time. I know you will finally get the prize and be cured because you have determination and faith even though you have been let down so many times you do not let it keep you down. Your support and kind words have really kept me going and thank you for your post it was really uplifting to hear. Please check in and let me know how you are doing because you are a warrior and I know you will win this fight. Thank you so much for everything you are awesome. keep your strong and wonderful attitude I just know you will beat this if there is ever anything i could do please let me know your support has got me through everyone on this forum is awesome and I hope to someday be able to repay you all. Take care and let me know how you are doing Dawn
I am JimmyK and I approve this message.
Thank you that really helps i am so happy you are cured and recovered that is awesome
and I am always grateful for advise and to hear others experience.
Thank you all so much and no it was not easy and im still feeling kind of crappy mostly alot of pain in my legs I was wondering if that happened to anyone else and my menstrual cycle has gone crazy like every other week but might just be coincidence How are you feeling I read you also have done well im so happy to hear that I hope your recovery is not going to ruff. The effects from the riba have eased up but i am still kind of moody but as i said the leg pain is bothering me the most so far i dont think i am anemic which is really strange since before treatment it was a constant battle and yes i gained eight pounds back so i guess my appetite is back
lol I hope you are all doing well let me know how it is going for you and thank you for your kind words and as always your support . Talk to you soon Dawn
Dawn,
How nice to hear from you, especially with this fantastic news. It wasn't easy was it? It's quite an exercise in living with discomfort.
How are you feeling? It keeps getting better in my experience.
We're still here if you need us in the recovery from the recovery.
Thanks for the update.
Cheddy
Hi Dee,
Lovely to hear back from you, with your wonderful news!
C.
Hi Dawn,
Thanks for sharing your update and fantastic news! How does it feel besides GREAT!!
We are all happy for you and you'll be pleased to know that we are seeing one SVR after another! Good times for treatment success rates! Lets keep working on that cure. No Hep by 2030...
Congratulations! SVR12
Hi everyone I hope you are all doing well. I have not posted in a while life has been crazy but I wanted to let you know I just got my three month blood work and it was still undetected

Just wanting to thank you all again for helping me through the hard times and helping me not give up I could never be thankful enough and also hope this helps someone else who is worried about starting treatment because everyone here knows how petrified I was to start treatment but with all the support I had from this forum I was able to make it through. I hope everyone has reached undetected and will be praying for the ones who are waiting because it will happen. Well again I just wanted to check in and I hope everyone is doing great. Thank you again, Dawn
Thank you both so much it really is nice to talk to people who get it even though it sucks that we all understand and have been through it lol. I might have to try an anti depressant but have not had luck with them in the past somehow i got more crazy lol
But if you dont keep trying i will never know.
I am with Wendy on this one for sure. I was on the same protocol, lost weight and felt like dog towards the end of and well after treatment.
Break back in slowly, it will come and you go girl! CONGRATS!
JimmyK
hey Dawn,
Dave's right, keep up with the water intake. Also slowly introduce foods you were staying away from. And not all at once. I hope you feel better soon.
wendy
Hi ladies,
Many people have problems coming off riba, and others not.
Thank you I appreciate it i have slacked some on the water and lost twenty pounds during treatment so I tried eating normal the past few days and it has upset my stomach but I appreciate you getting back to me and the advice I will just follow it and hope for things to get better. How are you feeling I hope you are still doing as good as I last heard. Thank you again Dawn
Hi Dawn,
Congrats on EOT!
Dave
Hi everyone hope you are all well and doing good. I was just checking in and also had a question I ended treatment five days ago and i go for blood work on the forth of aug to check if i am still undetected and check everything but my question is for the past few days since ending treatment I feel horrible like sick and weak super tired and generally awful is this normal ? I was not expecting it because i was feeling ok for the most part up until then. Thank You and hope to hear from you soon Dawn
Hi Dawn,
Good to hear from you, so glad to hear that you are still UNDETECTED ... what excellent news!
Dave
Hope everyone is doing well just checking in to see how you all are. I had my 6 week blood work done and thank god so far still undetected. mood swings have been pretty bad this week but so far has been worth it. I hope everyone is has had good news and feels well talk to you soon Dawn
Hi Cheddy I am so glad it is helpful I feel the same way and I am so glad to hear you are feeling better that is awesome and it has been a life saver to be on this forum because unless you have been through it you just cant understand Hope you are well talk to you soon Dawn
LOL you are so funny
It is great that you have kept humor after all you have been through.I will definitely be looking forward to that relief although I am kind of high strung even without riba. I hope you are doing good and things are going well in your life and I am here if you need anything Dawn
Hi Dawn,
six weeks?
Syd
LMAO that really made me laugh you are awesome syd I can totally relate. I am sure you are beautiful even when you are in in your pj's
soon we will both be riba free and be maybe able to tolerate people again lol I just started week 6 hoping it will go by quick about how long would you say the riba effects last when you finish ? they put me on medicine to help the anxiety but I am still pretty grumpy and I know what you mean I cry about everything yesterday my son and his wife were fighting and I was there trying to referee and ended up crying and my son got upset and was like what is wrong with you and all I could say was I don't know and then after I stopped crying I started yelling at him for upsetting her so I know they really cant understand and I am driving everyone crazy I am even getting on my own nerves lol well I hope you are doing well and I really need the laughs these days thank you that was great talk to you soon Dawn
Hi Dawn,
how many weeks in are you now?
Long live the PJs I say.
lol k8 that is hilarious. Tig you are so right and i am dying laughing because even in walmart i got a few weird looks and i was like REALLY lmao Next time i will try the glasses. You make a great point i had to go in there today and the women in electronics i had to deal with lets say did not bring out my best qualities but at least i did not pull her over the counter lol
I hope things are going well for you and i appreciate the laughs from you both that always helps have a great night Dawn
Ha Ha,
Going to the store in PJ's brings back a funny memory of first time on treatment when my husband would take me to Braums (classic ice cream store in TX,) all I could muster was keeping the PJ top on and putting on jeans!

Just keep working on your goals and the goodness will follow...
just checking in to see how everyone one is doing and feeling. Good I hope I have had a few good days but the mood swings are still going strong getting pissed off ALOT and still some crying days but other than that things have been ok I have decided to start piece by piece to start giving myself a make over I hope it will help and it is time to let the pj pants I have been rockin in public stay home lol. I remember a time I would not be caught dead without my hair and makeup being done and dressing up instead of just rolled out of bed look. My hope is to get the energy back to do it
I hope everyone is well and have some good updates I would love to hear about. Have a great night Dawn
Hi mike77 Thank you I am glad it gives you hope I feel the same way when I read the posts of others.
That is awesome that we can finish this out together I think it will help us both.

oh dee!! when I was on the riba I had many many rages. I remember throwing the oven rack across the room because I could not get it back in the oven.. lol & lots more rages.. wow.. it will all go away. & become memories of how strong you have been & what it was all about!! thumbs up!!
peace out Taz
In the end you certainly will be. It's a great feeling to hear the words "SVR" so keep up the good work and expect good things. Congrats on UND in just 3 weeks. That's AWESOME!

I know what you mean I am still in shock but now it seems worth the misery lol Thank you for your encouragement as always. How are you feeling? I hope this weekend you get some fun and relaxation I think everyone on here needs and deserves some. The riba definitely keeps testing me but I keep reminding myself I have no bail money lol
Well thank you again I hope you are having a great day. Dawn
Loopy Lisa so nice to meet you. Thank you so much I really do hope this can help other people this really is a scary thing to do especially when so many have already had such horrible experiences. I am so sorry about what you went through that is heartbreaking but this time It going to be great for you. I am happy that you enjoyed reading this and I hope it does help and if there is anything I can do to help you in any way please do not hesitate. Thank you as well , the past was ruff but I have also been so blessed I would not have survived without my kids everyone thought I was crazy to have 5 kids but it turns out they saved my life.
