That's a good point. Why do I need it? IMHO folks in LA in daily smog need it. Folks who smoke may find use in it (not me). Folks on major meds can find use in it. HCV is not the only toxin to the liver, BUT it does make sense to wait for SVR. Will play by the rules. Thanks!

You don't want to take it until after your EOT+12 blood work. Milk Thistle alters the liver enzyme tests. Wait until you have them done and then decide.

Hiya's
I stopped taking milk thistle when I started treatment (three years ago) and have never gone back to it. With no drinks and no smokes I can't see any reason for it. Just had blood work, ast 16 alt 9

Greetings,
In that you stopped taking Milk Thistle on the advice of your Doctor while on treatment, don't you think it wise to consult him/her and ask?
Technically you are still under treatment, just in a different phase.
Keeping all of the standard tests clear of the "maybes" is the best approach.
Warm Regards

Hi Anna,
I used to take milk thistle for years and then switched to bupleurum after much research (prior to my last TX). Once I was SVR, I saw no need to continue and my doc agreed with me. I would like to see what Tig and some of the elder spokespersons have to say.....

This is not a doctor question as they never suggest milk thistle. I took pharmaceutical grade milk thistle for 20 years when I was diagnosed with HCV. I'm convinced it kept my liver in reasonable shape. I did stop milk thistle while on Harvoni at doctor request as it could affect LFT's. But once I was done, I started taking them occasionally again. Wondering why I need to wait until SVR results before resuming the milk thistle when the purpose at 12 weeks is checking HCV RNA. Or am I missing something? Thank you.....Anna
