Hi Dave,
Don't froget to maintain an adequate hydration program all the way through treatment. If you're not drinking 3-4 liters of water everyday, you need to. It will help all kinds of the side effects. There isn't much that helps the Ribavirin side effects, except finishing treatment!
Use a good lotion everyday, that will help the skin problems. You should try limiting your showers to every other day, use lukewarm water, never hot. If you use a mild soap, like baby soap and shampoo, it will also help your skin. Stay out of the sun, use sunscreen and never scratch. That will make things worse. If you develop a rash, let us know and we can offer some ideas to help.
If you feel the anger or moodiness developing (Riba rage) leave the room. Avoid the things that trigger the irritation or it can become a problem, as you discovered. Ribavirin is sometimes as hard on those around us as it is on us.
It will be over in no time, but it takes some time to recover from these medications. You're almost there, good job!!

Hi Tiger,
i did 12 weeks of RIBA and went pretty mad so had to congratulate you on managing to stick out almost 24. It's funny, I haven't heard many people complaining of aches and pains but I have been almost crippled with them. Muscular skeletal and mainly in my back and legs but one day I woke up and there was a new lump on my right wrist. I finished RIBA in March and slowly the aches and pains are going, although the wrist thing seems permanent.
My skin turned into snake skin with little lumps and bumps, I itched all day and night, I cried and pulled the blankets over my head, sooo angry. Ended up fatter than I began.
BUT being SVR is a miracle. I never thought I wouldnt have hep c, I didn't realise how depressed, tired and sick I felt. RIBA was worth it and I would do it again in a heart beat if I had to.
Take care,
Syd

Argh! Some days are certainly better than others. Remember that because this one hurts. The jury isn't in. You're in the middle, not the end of change. It's hard to see from here, but there is still light at the end of the tunnel. So sorry.

Hi Tiger,
Glad to hear from you again, how you're doing, and how close you are to the finish line!!! Won't be long now! It's been a long slog for you, and I think you have been quite stoic about riba effects.
I am glad your abdomen has felt somewhat less uncomfortable since and after you started treatment. On your scans, did they ever say your gallbladder had any stones or such, or was it appearing to be OK? How is that foot, toe pain (that you said was decreasing)? Which toes were affected?
You mention some trouble sleeping, (and prior) about mood, (I assume these are riba effects), do you think the riba effects heightened, stayed the same, or that you got used to some of it through these last 24 weeks?
You were UND at 4 weeks, so you should be feeling very good about your next EOT tests. It will be so nice, after all your hard work, to have this part behind you, and re-claim your health.
Did you have any new ALTs, ASTs, bili's, AFP's or VL's to post between 4 weeks and now? When is your next VL and bloods to be drawn?
I am very glad you are feeling good about things! C.
