Yeah, I felt like I was being kicked in the ribs a bit. But I think a lot of ultrasounds are slightly uncomfortable because they'll press the scanner thing against bony places sometimes.
I had my scan done by a gastro physician, and she gave me the results right away. Bummer you have to wait for yours. If you really want to, you can demand a printout of your results as soon as they're ready, like the day after the scan. You have a legal right to do that, even though medical personnel might grumble about it.

Hi Iris, glad you got your fibroscan done although it sounds like it was a pretty unpleasant experience for you. Most people find it a very easy procedure so I don`t know why yours wasn`t, but at least you`ve got it done and out of the way now, and sounds like you have a low score. Let`s hope it will be acceptable for the insurance company anyway, that`s the main issue now. What a lot of hurdles you`re having to overcome just to get hold of the meds you need, I really feel for you!
Good luck with the angiogram and with helping your mum find a new place to live, yes you do have a lot going on but try not to let it all get you down. You`re moving forward, step by step!
Do let us know when you hear your `official` fibroscan result, Iris, and any more news. Wishing you all the best...

Hi Iris,
I only felt a mild thunking when I had one.
The tech that did mine, told me they were first invented to measure the readiness/density of cheese. She said "we want a nice firm Camembert, not a parmesan "
that made me think about cheese......(My sister is a goat-cheese maker, and I do love a bit of gourment cheese once in a while.)......and it was over before I knew it..
I sure hope you don't have to wait too long to get treated.
bless,
Alison

Hi Iris,
Glad to hear your update.
Nice you are with your Mom and helping her. Good you got the colonoscopy out of the way. Too bad the sedation made you sick, my partner's sedation agreed with him very much! (He was just the nicest, happiest guy, for the rest of the day anyway!) Everybody is dif tho.
Glad you will soon get your angiogram out of the way.
My first fibroscan only surprized me, I wasn't prepared for the first thunk. All in all it was a piece of cake for me, tickled a bit (not the thunking, but just because of the touching of the ribs part) so was hard not to squirm and giggle.
I am still confused about what your F score is, or what your fibroscan kPa number is.
When you speak of "2" (that you must be 2 or more to qualify for insurance), do you mean you have to be F2?? Then, that would mean your fibroscan kPa number would have to be about 7-ish and higher (depending on what scale is used - perhaps starting as low as 7.1 kPa's, some scales start at about 7.5, other scales are more)? I can't get it figured out what your fibroscan kPa-based Fscore is.
Did your insurance actually confirm to you and your doc, that you MUST be F2 or over, or you won't get the meds until you are??!! Barbaric! This is supposed to be changing!
You are doing an incredible job of being diligent, patient, and taking good care of yourself and your Mom. I hope things turn around for you at your Nov. appointment. C.

Hi Iris,
Good grief! I'm sorry to hear you had that experience. Did they have a rogue ultrasound probe? They gently tap/pulse, not break a rib, lol! You earned that low score I hope the score is a qualifier for you. Whatever the case, it's good to know your liver is in good shape and if you have to wait a short while, you can. The regulations are starting to relax and with the new drugs in trial, I think the pathway to new generics looks good. Affordable pan genotypic DAA treatments for a much wider number of patients.
The times are looking better all the time. Hang in there, your turn is coming!

Hi Iris,
Your numbers are negligible and I would hazard to say nothing to worry about. It was a strange experience you had. I had two and there was nothing more than the smallest feeling of a thud over my ribs. My rib cage also shows so there is no padding at all.
I am wondering how that even happened. Good luck with everything and keep us posted.

yea, fortunately /unfortunately good and bad,
the insurance won't cover unless it is 2.00 or more
Now that the script is waiting at the pharmy all I need it the big ok.
Sigh..... been alot going on lately. Have been staying up at moms, she's thinking of moving into a smaller place, we're looking around. I have an angio-gram coming up, and had a colonoscopy that made me real ill, possibly a side effect from the anesthesia.
Oh by the way the dents are faded, little bit of the Pillsbury dough girl there, lol
Thanks you guys, its good to hear from you...Iris

Hi Iris
Sorry to hear your experience during and after your fibroscan was uncomfortable :(
My fibroscan felt odd with the forceful jolts but it didn't seem to bother me too much, during or after. In comparison to the liver biopsy I suffered through in 2009 the fibroscan was like getting an ultra sound lol
Your numbers look great tho...hang on to that news :)
Blessings to you also

It sounds like your score is pretty low, Iris!! Great news. When I had mine done, it didn't hurt at all. Hardly felt anything. Everything is moving right along for you!

Hi Iris,
I don't know how to read the results on screen but if your fibroscan result was really between one and two it would be a cause for celebration.
As for the ouches, that sounds strange. Mine have never hurt at all. Just a slightly spooky ripple effect deep inside the gizzard area, which is actually what is happening. But when push comes to shove, I can't remember whether they actually used it on my rib cage, I thought it was just under. I have got silly sticky out ribs so maybe they could angle the machine thingie up to get the top part of the liver without having to bong against bone. Or come to think of it, msybe there's a soft little layer of old lady fat that disseminates the ripple a bit.
Glad it's behind you anyway and hope the results are good.

Hi guys
I just got back from the fibro scan. The girl said she couldn't read the results but I saw a number coming up on the screen, near the bottom of the machine that changed slightly from 1.25 to about 1.67 ...I presume that was the score, and if so looks to be near similar to the blood test. Which was between 1.50 and 2.00 (I'd have to go look).
In any case ...ouch! I didn't know that rod was going to be smacking my side. I have dents on my right rib cage. Is that normal? That really didn't feel great but totally less painful than a biopsy or a nerve test ...OUCH... those really hurt.
Now to hurry up and wait for the results when I see the hepatologist in late November
