I just saw xray of my neck this week and have 2 discs that are degenerating. No car accidents so they figure age. I didn't think to mention to the chiro about the past HCV treatments. My pelvis comes out of alignment every so often due to my rigorous working out and they have to put it back in place and they told me to stretch my hamstrings more so I will do that. This getting old sucks but it sure is better to do it with a healthy liver!

I'm still catching up from Hurricane Irma and just came across the additions to this thread. First, let me say hello to our old friend, Skewed. If memory serves me, weren't you the one that sent me the video of you doing 180mph on your Kawasaki? That was some crazy video, lol! Never a dull moment when you're doing 180
While I wasn't part of the Sovaldi generation, I have to mention that those of us on the original SOC, Peg/Riba/Vic or Incivek are having our own difficulties with arthritis and joint pain. My biggest complaint is the damage it did to my teeth. I didn't even get through treatment before it started and it's still deteriorating. The bone loss and subsequent problems have really been difficult to deal with. I would love to be able to just get it all taken care of, but when you don't have dental insurance, it makes it tough. I have phases where I experience flares of pain and limited movement in my hips and shoulders. Sure, some of it comes with age, but like you mentioned, my 90 year old Dad didn't have the same issues until way later in life. The first year after treatment was the absolute worst. It was constant, but it let up some and now, as I said, it comes in waves. My feet hurt a lot in the mornings, but that lets up after I stomp around a bit. HCV by itself can cause joint pain and is very common in people pre-treatment. For some like us, it gets worse and then resolves or at least lessens after SVR. I have also recognized a bit of a trend in people on Sofosbuvir (Sovaldi) that are experiencing the same thing. I think we're all paying a price for our successful Dragon slaying, but still, I'm certain that the alternative would've ultimately been far worse.
Mike, 20 mile bike rides, seriously? Let me give you a cyber high 5 on that, Brother! That's incredible, my hat's off to you! I wish I had my old X Rays, they got lost somewhere in the shuffle called life... I've got the same type of repair in my neck, mine encompasses 7 vertebra, C2 to T1 posteriorly and a smaller plate anteriorly. Now the rest of my spine is having problems compensating for all the hardware. Since the normal flexion was changed, the vertebra above and below the repair had to take the brunt of the altered flexion and they're suffering. We could set off metal detectors just walking near them, ha, ha!

I suffered from terrible, painful arthritis in my thumbs, knees and one hip for many years before treatment because of the HCV. The inflammation has gone down a lot, and my bouts with joint pain have become much less frequent since treatment, so I think the drugs helped fix my arthritis

Hey wmlj,
Thank you SO much for taking me along on the 20 mile ride you had, I felt the whole way i was there with you! Loved it. What did we get for lunch?! So admire your abilty to do that, if I could have been there, you would regret it, I would have been puffin and whining one mile in, wanting to head back for luch, but coming along with you this way I got to see it all! Neat place(s) to go (in your neck of the woods) by bike! Really impressed what your locale did to make these walks and runs and that BRIDGE thing!, unreal. (I looked at some of the other utubes that came up after the one you posted). Who knew, not me, that's for sure! Great idea that walking infrastructure over the bridge, and a wonderful view the mighty river. So, thank you for that nice glimpse into your life, your town and a really neat ride! I was grinning, chuckling and enjoying myself immensely. Love your voice, and your touring ad libs, replete with gatorade stops, counting and puffin. Man, you're not kidding when you say you have regained your health and your life. (Oh, and all that "trick" cycling!! - how did you manage to do all that upside-down stuff? I thought it would be hard enough just doing it upright. heehee heeeeeeeeee). Seems to me you did not have your coordinated neon green helmet on to match your mean machine. (Enjoyed the pic of your kitty the other day too!) Can't believe you do that twice a week? Ashamed to admit to my just lolli-gag strolling every day and making it to lassitude yoga once a week, if I am lucky! What roads you have travelled Mike! : )

Hi Skewed,
BIG CONGRATS BTW on being almost 3 years SVR!
I remember you from some of your old posts. I reviewed some of those old ones again last night to refresh my memory, and noted you are a deep thinker (as you put it), and I think so too. I enjoyed your posts (then) and enjoyed re-reading them all again last night. I like your deep thinking.
When reviewing your old posts last night, I recalled (back then) how impressed I was that you ended up cured on ONLY 6 weeks of sof/simi treatment!
This current post, where you "throw it out there" for people to loosely connect sketetal/joint pain "problems" to being 2+ year post-HCV treatment is bound to elicit responses (just being that there may well be a high percentage of people out there who do have joint problems and do not or may not ever really know the causation), but whether it is helpful/accurate or fair (in the long run) to ask post-HCV people to be pondering this ominous "connection", or not, I can't say (but everyone should be able to say what they think). I think you will elicit some healthy or unhealthy suspicions with your post and wonder if you will just end up with no conclusions.
Being that for many, having and then being cured of their HCV was a fear-fraught time, a leap into the unknown so to speak, many can be left a little shaken and doubtful, any unsubstantiated speculation or suggestion that HCV treatment itself may do us harm is an easy fear to harbour.
So, should there be a long list of people who complain of "joint problems" and happen to be 2+years post-HCV treatment, then what would you presume, what would you do with this info, what purpose does it serve?
Have you studies or theories you are working on? I enjoy a good study. : ) C.
Hey bb, yes indeedy, if you EVER wanted to see some mighty impressive radiologically-proven testaments to human courage, endurance, hope, effort and sheer will, it is wmlj and Tig and a few others around here as well, who truly "walk the walk".

I suspect that has more to do with the results of the riba at this point and it will take several months to recover from it's effects. That's how it was for me. I was a joint-pain mess after 24 weeks of riba but after a year or so post tx I was back to normal. I'm now 2 1/2 years post riba tx and 1 1/2 years post Harvoni tx and the only joint/muscle/bone pain I have is from a knee that needs total replacement and my back which I broke 16 weeks into my Sov/Riba tx which is held together with a bunch of metal (image). Today I have a moderate daily exercise routine and ride my bike 20 miles at a time. Life is good post treatment for me!
interesting indeed! hmmmmm Ok I'm just going to say it!....Poosnizzle!!!.......meaning NO! NO!, say it isn't so! LOL.. Gosh I'm so sorry that sucks I totally hate that feeling as for me it comes and goes and I work out as well (well not during treatment though) and I refuse to get old but my body wants to argue with me about it sometimes.....Maybe a vitamin deficiency??? Who knows, lets keep a note on this one cuz right now my body is aching so bad muscles and joints and I'm only 7 days post treatment. Not sure if its related but you have to wonder, right????

Hi Skewed,
December will be 2 years for me and I started having joint problems maybe a year ago. Very intermittent and the trainers at the gym all believe it is age and how hard I work out. Doc does not believe it to be arthritis but you made me wonder about long term effects of the meds. hmmmm

Hello all,
It's been a while since I've posted. I'm 2 years 11 months post treatment and I'm starting to develop joint problems--back, thumb, wrist, and knee, etc. I'm starting to wonder if these problems are related to treatment? I know many will say, well you're getting on up in age, but my dad who is 81 years old does not have these problems. If you are 2+ years post treatment and have developed joint problems, I'd like to hear from you.
