Hey 5 - thanks for sharing about your membership in al anon. Those 12 little steps work wonders for folks like us dont they? No matter which side of the disease we gain access to them from.
Lamont hoseclamp made me chuckle.
Thank you friends

Not the big D? That’s never any fun, but tbh, ever since they yanked my gallbladder in 2001, I’ve had nothing but the big D. I don’t know what it is about our misguided digestive tract, but here’s hoping yours improves quickly. If it doesn’t, ask your doctor if you can take something like Imodium to slow things down. My interaction checker says it’s okay, so ask your doctor, nurse or pharmacist for the okay.
In my best Astro voice.

Well now I seem to be having the opposite problem. I think Id rather be constipated than this situation. Diarrhea is no fun at all. Constipation is no picnic, but TBH its more managable and less inconvenient than the opposite. I mean lets be honest, LOL
Glad this will all be behind me at some point.

Really Cheddy? That's great news , after what you and Lamont said, I have hope that perhaps a nice sandwich, or soda cracker, noodle soup, spaghetti...heck all pasta! (gluten free pasta just sucks) maybe a doughnut? ummmmmm will be in my future? Pretty please? Pretty, pretty please?
this is great... only here can we really talk about our guts! BB, Iris

Try "Smooth Move" tea.

It should be OK (docusate) , although I like senna better, or the "big gun", Milk O Magnesia.
Everyone will chime in and say ..."Drink more water", and that can't hurt either. Try not to use the same thing all the the time, they say it can make you dependent on laxatives over time.
I had chronic hoseclamp for 3 years, but it abated about 9 months after I was cured by Epclusa. Must've been a connection to the HepC, or at least it seemed that way.

If Miralax does not work next step up is Senokot S then if still constipated just one 5 mg Dulcolax (really ... take two at your peril .. only one 5 mg bisacodyl tab first:)
For my chronic constipation I have found I can pretty much avoid laxatives by taking a 100 mg magnesium citrate capsule with breakfast and dinner and make sure I eat at least 50 g fiber a day, most of it insoluble from Fiber One cereal at breakfast then also some soluble fiber from 24 g Metamucil daily. Hope this helps.

OK, scruff! youre right of course I am not ungrateful, and I too came by Hep C the questionable way. How I wound up making those choices is cause for concern and self reflection. Having done that I feel confident stating that will never happen again. Now its time for forgiveness and positivity which Im finding in abundance here thanks to people like you
thanks

Ungrateful...get that thought out of your head. You just picked the right time for treatment. BUT there are some ppl here who got hepc from shall we say questionable practices myself included.
If they were to become re-infected because of that then that would be ungrateful.

I know Im fortunate and I really want to stay that way. I hope I dont seem terribly ungratefu. Thank you scruffy and everyone, especially all you veterans of previous treatment regimens.
I encourage people, after reading through this link, to use our search function and look through the old posts here on the forum. You will find some unsettling stories related to the first of the new drugs offered to combat this disease. The description Scruffy left is spot on and nothing could be closer to the truth. That was a short five years ago. The new DAA’s can cause some issues, but nothing like those old standards of care. Calling them harsh is understated...

Hi hoodie
Weirdo?? I don't think so. 4-5 years ago we had a lot of "back door" posts here. There was one med that caused really bad back door side effects. I'm sure Tig remembers those "every time I have a BM its like shards of glass and razor blades soaked in hot sauce" posts. When I get constipated I guzzle some olive oil on an empty stomach pr prune juice.
Best wishes for you.

Nope, not weird, just human. Try mixing fiber buds cereal into yogurt, maybe a little milk. Or maybe just the cereal. It's a good idea to keep things moving. I assume you have been properly barraged with the need to drink moooore water.
Hang in there, one step at a time, one solution after another.

Thanks for thinking about me Tig, all is well. It was just that one day over the weekend that my morning coffee didnt do the trick. So I posted here AND emailed my doc. Doc was out of town till Monday and I had made an educated guess that stool softener was probably fine to take. Welp Im pleased to report that it was fine, it did the trick, AND my doc said it was ok (docusate sodium 250mg x up to 4 per day).
Butt* I also went to the drugstore and stocked up on: 1 fleet saline enema, MIRALAX, and some fleet glycerine suppositories just in case this becomes an issue that I need to manage on a regular basis.
Does the fact that talking about this stuff doesnt bother me at all make me a weirdo?
*heh.
