yea, cheese was not my friend during tx. i waited a few weeks after tx to even try it again.... now i can eat it.
i usually only have it a few times a month due to sodium and skin issues that have come up in the past.
even my skin does seem to be doing better than before tx.... i look forward to more improvements with my skin

Digestive problems can be part and parcel of HCV infection. I used to vomit many many days and suffered from nausea constantly for 32 years.... I am almost 3 years cured and I have only been sick to my stomach once in those 3 years and that was from the flu.

That is NOT nice for you Dandy. Too bad. You have my sympathy. Hopefully this dietary problem will be something that improves for you, and quickly I hope, once you are rid of your hep c virus and your liver is happier and healthier. You had some recent imaging, did your doc mention if your gall bladder looked fine? I certainly hope you have been keeping your doc(s) very fully informed about this GI thing you have been experiencing. How long has this been happening? Does the event of vomiting just stop occurring as long as you avoid cheese and yogurt entirely?
Could you please possibly update us on any of your old labs, hx, do up a signature line maybe? We still don't even know what GT you are yet, or what meds your doc might be suggesting for you.
Did they give you any idea when the nurse may be calling you to give you your meds so you have a start date?? C.

cheese if it's been left out at room temperature or had changes in temperature such as cheese in a casserole that has been refridgerated and reheated. I won't buy yogurt anymore. I never know... I may eat something and it comes back up within 15 minutes or 45 minutes later....

Hi Dandy,
Well, it won't be long now! Yay! Nice you moved to the State where they approved your treatment. Just waiting for that nurse to phone eh?
Oh course it will be better once you are cured! - you have a chronic viral infection that carries known harms and sides, that you just HAVE to be rid of it, and good riddance to this virus too! It will be done quite easily too, with a simple course of these fantastic new-era treatments.
You are lucky to be treated today, compared to perhaps to being treated back in 1995!
I am glad you are almost ready to start, make sure the doc and nurse have finished assessing your hep A&B immunity status when they call to arrange your pills. Did they happen to give you a fibroscan, as well as your recent abdominal U/S? Have you ever had a liver biopsy done in the past, or have any other old liver function test results to share?
We need a signature line for you - it will help immensely when you land on your very own "On Treatment" thread, so we can easily recall your details when we are conversing back and forth.
Try something like this ...
... F, 62 yo, Dx 1995, GT ___. Pre-treatment VL ___, ALT/AST ___. Fatigue, mood and GI troubles. Recent U/S done - some fatty liver - no cirrhosis. Fscore ___ ...
What drugs has your doc been suggesting for you - we might have ventured some guesses if we knew what your GT was.
I am glad you will be getting your treatment drugs soon! C.

Hi ! Congrats on getting the all clear for treatment, that's excellent news.
What is it that is making you vomit? is there certain foods that have been bothering you? Split peas and lentils do not sit well with me, and would exit the body with full force within an hour but I do not know if that was hep C related or not, but I haven't tried them since treatment, not really in a hurry to find out. Bread and all wheat products give me horrendous heartburn, achy joints, pounding headache, and the runs. Was hoping that would be gone after Tx, tried bread the other night ...nope, still not good.
I actually had no stomach issue at all with Tx and think I may have gained a few pounds, but I feel like that was because I became so sedentary,
however I partook in marijuana products and that might have helped my stomach.
BB, Iris

All - I wondered during treatment if I would ever not have the brain fogginess I struggled with for years. I suspected that I had permanent brain damage of some kind, like that HCV encelphatholgy...however, a year after treatment, its been months now since I had the serious brain fog I used to feel at least a few days every week.
During Harvoni treatment I found that my appetite was less and I did actually lose 5 pounds or so even though I was drinking LOTS of water. That 5 pounds hasn't come back, even though my appetite returned. The best part is that I feel more whole and alive, even though I'm a year older.

Gosh, Tig. Perfect reply, again. I'm with you and 5. While on treatment, I wasn't sure I'd ever be the same again. Voila! Given some recovery time (nope, not overnight) I am better than before. I am pretty much back to my old self (except I'm an older self).
Dandy, It sounds like the new treatments are much more tolerable, and certainly worth it. You have got a lot going for yourself. You are already in the driver's seat. You'll just go faster around the corners.
I second the self care advise (who else can do it?) and the recommendations below. I also recommend checking in here for wisdom, solid information, and support.
And I hope you can eat cheese.

Hi Dandy,
Thats a two pronged question, with the same answer, YES. Once the virus has been destroyed, your body will begin the recovery process. You are ahead of the game already. Your doctor said you have no cirrhosis, no HCC and a bit of a fatty liver. Good, good and easily manageable. Just ridding yourself of the virus will allow the liver to start functioning better and along with diet and time, the steatosis (fatty liver) will improve. Nothing happens overnight, but it will happen. You are, in large part, going to be back in the drivers seat and in control. Treat yourself well, take your medication as ordered and all good things are possible. Don’t forget, you must adequately hydrate. That’s about as important as taking the medication. Doing so will keep the side effects at bay and make for a smooth ride...
PS: Can you set up your signature line and tell us what treatment plan your doctor has decided? Once you begin, start a new thread in the On Treatment section. Why did you choose that title for this thread? Are you having a problem or what?

Saw my gastroenterologist after having an ultrasound and she says Im good to go for treatment. She saw some fatty liver but that's it: no cirrhosis or cancer. Now I wait for call back from Hep C nurse to start my meds.
Am I really going to get better or am I just going to not get any worse?
