Tig   I will remain on the metropolol while taking losartan , didnt ask to change the beta blocker, but she wont increase dose. It amazes me that , today we have to take mutliple meds for same problem ,  I think my step dad is on 3 different ones for HBP and my daughter takes  2or 3 , and my son takes a few for depression . Guess I got lucky with the Harvoni .   Michaele

My resting pulse averages in the low 60’s, too. My Dad was on Metoprolol and we fought to keep his BP and pulse high enough. He had some trouble with his ejection fraction and they had him on one drug to reduce his BP and if it was too low, I then had to administer something to elevate it. I fought with that until he passed. It’s wise to check with your healthcare team and good of you to be part of the decision. If you don’t have adequate coverage with one beta blocker, is your doc willing to try another? Will you DC the Metoprolol, if you start the Losartan? I get tired of the Rx shuffle. I wish we didn’t have to deal with it...

I would be relieved by the info from your pharmacist. I have a great one that is on top of current information, too. If that was the only thing stopping you (contaminates), then it may be worth trying. I like the idea that it reduces fibrosis. I’ll have to read up on that study.

Hey Tig. Ive read a few studies on the Losartan . It has been found to stop fibrosis and help resolve the fibrosis aleady there. There has been alot of flack about it being contaninated , but I talked to my Pharm , who assured me their supply is untainted and not from one of the manufactures involved in the recall . There is a small bleep about damage to muscle wasting , but I dont believe that involves the liver facts.   hope your doing well .  Michaele

hows is your heart rate?  BTW my Dr. wont increase my Beta blocker because of HR of 60 on 50mg metoprolol ER

I have been on blood pressure meds since I was 30. I have been on several different ones, but am now on a single daily dose of 100mg of Atenolol. It hasn’t caused any unusual side effects and controls my HTN very well. I was offered an antidepressant once, to help with pain management and when I mentioned it to my Hepatologist, he about stroked. He told me no way should I expose myself to it. We settled on another and I let the pain management doc know. Hopefully her next patient with liver disease will be spared. It’s a good idea to run all drugs in question by your liver specialist and pharmacist. 

There are some drugs that are either hepatotoxic or just harsh on the liver. If the drug is metabolized in the liver and your liver can’t absorb it, you lose the full benefit of the drug. We find absorption issues to be high on the list of problems, but as liver patients, we don’t want to expose ourselves to anything that will irritate. There may be times, when we have to take something that may be liver challenging, short term is one thing, but if it’s going to be a long term treatment, then it’s good to know our options, if there are any. 

HI , Once again I come home to the group for help. I used to have a list of meds safe for use by those with Hep C and/or liver disease .  Im trying to find a blood pressure meds that is safe for folks like us , and would like to hear from anyone on HBP meds approved for use by people with our conditions .  I have to wonder why, doctors have little knowledge of drugs safe for use by people with Hep C and cirrhosis . If I took all the unsafe drugs prescribed to me , I would be very sick now . Considering my age 68.5 and Hx of cirrhosis and Hep C  ,why do I have to wave red flags at my doctors . The only problem I had was getting Part D to cover my phenergan Rx.  Once one turns 65 they are afraid it will make you dizzy and you could be injured by a fall . After explaining to my doctor ,  "If I feel ill enough to take Phehergan ,  I would be in bed not out drag racing or climbing ladders  ." , she filled out special request with Part D and i got my Rx .  Hope to hear from all  people with HBP and those who dont .  I had to cut back my coffee consumption from 6+ cups QD to about 1/2 cup BID .      Thanks   Michaele         I already take a Beta Blocker but Dr .wants to add an additional med .
