Your doctor and insurance company will always need baseline labs before approving and starting treatment, it is just the standard of care. Same reason they check your HCV genotype and do a complete blood panel and (usually) a Fibroscan of your liver.

Thanks for responding so quickly. Wonder why they even test you if it doesnt mean anything. My doctor is a hepatologist and I was hoping he was doing the test for something. Seems strange!

Hey Sis,
That's weird! Taken the same day? Why did they do two separate tests on the same day? I honestly can't tell you why the results are so different. Could be a lab tech error, machine malfunction, or they listed someone else's results by mistake. You should ask the doctor and/or the lab why the discrepancy. That's just bizarre. Either way, aside from the difference in numbers, they don't mean anything anymore. Used to be that the viral load or quantitative number sometimes made a difference in the course of treatment. We would have our PCR checked real often and if those numbers didn't plummet appropriately, based on the number of weeks you were on them, they would stop treatment and call you a non responder. Not so anymore. The actual quantitative load has no bearing on your success rates. We have people that have had a viral load as high as 22 Million and within a month were undetected. So don't place much concern on that figure. You'll do just fine, I'm sure of it. These new DAA's are "Da Bomb"!

My HCV RNA, Quantitative Real Time PCR value before treatment = 3090000. IT ALSO STATES THAT my HCV RNA, Quantitative Real Time PCR value = 1870000. I know the values are both high. But does anyone know what this means? Why does it show on my results twice, taken the same day, and has 2 different values listed?
Thank you so kindly!
