I didnt know I was infected for almost two decades, had much unprotected sex with my hubby, birthed and breastfed two more children, I didnt know that I should be careful and I wasnt and none of my family got the virus from me. phew

Hello and welcome to the forum! Your question is one that has been asked for years and you’ll still find disagreements between professionals. Doctors used to say that even though we are undetected, with a <1% chance of relapse, it means there is still a possibility of active viral particulate in your blood at some point. You can find equally weighted professional opinions that claim, once SVR is achieved, you are no longer infectious, at all. The longer you remain undetected, the lower that risk of relapse is as well. 

Current medical opinion, from the US Veterans Administration, which is one of the leaders in research and treatment, has previously stated that once you achieve SVR, your blood (you) are no longer a risk to anyone. You will forever be antibody positive, so no blood donations will be accepted. 

I was infected 40 years ago, and found out in 96. Even after I achieved SVR, since I had spent so many years being cautious of my blood, I still find myself practicing safe techniques to assure myself and because old habits die hard. My wife and I, married 40 years, never concerned ourselves with protected sex during menstruation, because the doctors said the risk of infection was almost nil. Sexual infection between monogamous couples is extremely rare.

I was infected with hepatitis c when i was a child, but successfully cleared the virus. Now my blood tests show antibody positive but persistently PCR undetectable. My doctor told me that i have no risk of developing liver disease in the long term and can be reassured. 

In this situation, is it possible for me to infect someone with hepatitis c? can i safely have unprotected sex with my partner? also, can i have sex during menstruation without a condom?
