I am amazed with the advances we have made in treating HCV and find this example to be most unfortunate for the patient involved. How in the world, with her history and LFT's, did the ED and their associates fail to perform a PCR? It doesn't matter that her antibodies were sero-negative, it still warranted that test to rule out the possibility.
I'm glad she finally achieved SVR, but am saddened over how long it took them to find the root cause of skyrocketing LFT's. Look at how quickly they returned to normal after treatment. I think there should be a few doctors answering some not so difficult questions. I'm concerned for the patient and the damage she suffered from their failure to test appropriately. Her fibrosis went from mild to severe in the time it took them to refer her to an actual Hepatologist. That IMO is negligence and it will affect her in any number of ways. This kind of stuff really bothers me. I'm so glad you brought it to our attention!
