JoAnne,

I never got a chance to properly congratulate you, and thank you for hanging in there with me for so long. I am almost a year out of treatment. It has been an interesting year, with lots of ups and downs. I have had days when I wanted to conquer the world, and other days when I wanted to stay in bed. But for the most part I have been healthy. For instance, I did not have a cold or flu all winter. I have not felt sick at any time since finishing. But I was tired at times.

You are going to continue to improve until this whole thing will be a memory. And you deserve every bit of the good that comes. You fought a hard fight, and seem to have won it. Now pamper yourself for a few months.

Alan

Hi JoAnne, it`s still early days for you yet at 6 weeks post tx...48 weeks of tx takes a lot out of you and you certainly didn`t have an easy time!   Frustrating I know, but go easy and pamper yourself a bit.  I would say your doctor is about right saying it will take 3 months.  That was certainly the case with me, after only 24 weeks of tx.  I was very up and down for the first few weeks but then at some point my energy levels started getting much better.

Interferon treatment often causes slightly abnormal thyroid function, and it should get back to normal levels soon.   Best of luck with your next test.  Give yourself a while longer to recover and I`m sure you`ll be feeling much better.  You`ll get there, don`t worry!   smile Take care xx

Hey JoAnneh

Weird,  but I feel have the same notion and I was only on the 12 weeks of Abbotts trIal Meds

Trying to figure it out, maybe the Ribavirin lingering effects?

It seems that body and especially our livers are in two modes.

First mode -Our bodies trying to adapt to taking over the job that the Meds did, that's means Immune systems job of fending off the various germs, and cold virus and other attacks on the body. That might have an effect on energy levels, resting helps us to direct energies to healing and fighting off infections.

2nd mode - The other aspect could be our livers are in full heal / repair mode after being under attack for 40 years. I personally feel my liver is making its adjustments daily. Thats why I am really making sure my immune system is being supplied every good quality food and supplement I can give it and rest if it feels like it needs it.

I was told by a Chinese doctor once that the "kidneys power the liver", and that fresh prepared Lemon juice in filtered water in the morning and evening go a long way in keeping the kidneys in great share. So that might be something that could be done.

Matt

I'm sorry to hear this. I finished last May and had a slow summer like you are describing. Some days I felt like mowing all 3 acres. Other days I hibernated and slept. Give it some time. I think you will gradually gain your strength back. It can take months for the meds to get out of your system. I hope you are having new hair growth and increased mental alertness more than you did on tx. You hung in there for the whole thing. You're so strong...

I too have some rough days. It's been a year now. None of the horrible lasting side effects that I've heard of others having. Just some regular old cirrhosis days. I hope this encourages you. I know that my worry was that there would be some disabling effects. Nada.

Take care of you. xo Karen:)

Hey Everyone:
I am 6 weeks post tx. I have started
Improving and amazed lately how much
Better i was doing; lately though
All I want to do is sleep the past few days.
Anyone else feel good one day and exhausted
The next.
My thyroid was slightly abnormal after 48 weeks
So I am going to see Hep NP soon
To have it rechecked.
I am surprised how exhausted I am

Thank you for all your posts in here.  I was taking an antihystimine and maybe that was it - all other numbers are normal.  I am going back in 2 weeks to see if they come down.  Thanks

Hi John, from what I`ve read, a lot of medications can cause your AST levels to rise, including OTC painkillers like aspirin, ibuprofen, and tylenol, so if you`ve been taking any of those while you`ve had your cold that could be an explanation.

Does your doc think it`s cause for concern?

Hope you feel better soon.  smile

Hi J, any number of toxins can make your enzymes go up, Not sure about the flu or cold though. I wonder about inhaled toxins, being a real problem. Wishing you well, and may that nasty cold be brief! Blessings, Iris

My ast went from 100 to 246.  I wonder if that is the result of this nasty cold I have?
