Kelly, it makes sense to me that your hair is still falling out.  The drugs are still in your system and damaged hair does not go away....new growth coming in will be stronger but we will be stuck with the damaged hair til it falls out, breaks off, or grows to the end and we cut it off.

My hair is falling out too and I have 4 weeks of treatment left.  I have heard that it should be back to normal about 3-6 months after treatment depending on the person so be patient :)

Thank you all glad to be "post" and hearng your recovery is mostly going well. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to feel. Can't really remember how I felt prior to tx. I had immediate energy but think it was more relief and happiness that it was over. Now 3 weeks post? I'm fine but not terribly energetic or enthused about anything. I swear my hair is falling out worse now than before. Not sure maybe this is normal for me.

Hi Derek.

I am 6 weeks post tx.

For the first week after TX, my itch actually seemed worse. Then, like Shaun said, the itching got better over a month period.  My hair started to shed just a little bit in my last month of TX, and continued about a month post TX (like the itch)

Also, just like Shaun, I had sleep issues, and still have a bit of insomnia.  Usually I go to sleep ok, but wake in a couple hours, and toss and turn.  After being awake for about around an  hour, I usually get back to sleep ok.

I started having more energy at about 2 weeks, and I feel like a powerhouse now at 6.  I'm still amazed when I come home after a hard day of work, and I feel no fatigue at all...wonderful!

It only gets better each day.  Congrats on making it through!

Brad

I am three months post tx today.  THe itching held on for about a month after I stopped tx and faded a little each day til it was gone.  My hair never fell out.

The day after finishing the riba my appetite came screaming back.  At about three weeks my energy came back.  At five weeks post tx I felt almost normal.  At two months post TX I felt normal but with sleep issues.  Now I just have a little insomnia.  I am working out every day, going snowboarding...everything I used to do.

Thanks everyone! I'm quite hairy normally (I like to think I'm just more manly) And Now there's a coat of hair everywhere from falling out... haha. Seems like everyone has to just do what they feel is best. Everyone I talk to says different things. Push until you cant, Rest up, seems like I just gotta man up and see how things go... :P

Thanks for all the help and words!

Hi Derek.  Firstly, Congrats on finishing tx!!  Woohoo!! smile

Half the battle a lot of the time, is not expecting too much too quickly.  We are often led to believe that we will return to normal as soon as we finish tx and then just pick up our lives where we left off.  That is usually not the case fom my experience.

After the initial euphoria of completing tx has passed, people usually have to readjust to how they now feel post-tx, as they gradually start to return to what was normal for them, and hopefully continually feel better and better.  But that process takes a different amount of time for everyone and being as kind to yourself as possible, during that process, helps.

Hope you start to notice some of the sides disappearing soon but don't be hard on yourself if you need to be patient for a little longer.

Hugs

Heather xxx

Hi Derek,

I had sleep problems throughout tx, so I took sleeping pills to sleep through the entire night.  That side effect lasted for two weeks past tx and then went away completely.  Although, I would say that my dreams seem more powerful now than they used to, I am certainly sleeping well.

It takes about nine days to clear the riba, so you might find that you will be feeling better soon.  It does take awhile to clear the interferon from our bodies, but each day should be a little better than the day before.  Good luck, tysmile

I ended treatment on Thursday. So I've had one full day without any medicine. Last night I didn't sleep for more then 6 minutes at a time waking up in a panic and/or dripping sweat. Dreams and reality were very mixed. I knew where I was but had very bad dreams that felt very very real and were connected with me being in my bed. Is it normal for these sorts of side effects after ending the Ribavirin? I'm not sure if it's the ribavirin that makes it hard to sleep but its not making me exhausted enough to stay asleep now?

My mind is very scattered and it's hard to concentrate. Sorry for the jumble of questions. I now feel like a crazy person...
