It will become easier each time Tim.  May be I'm oversimplifying it.  I usually sit down and shoot into the top of my thighs.  Because I want the needle to go in at 90 degrees that usually means my view is of the top of my thumb when I plunge.  I know I'm done when the plunger doesn't go down any further.  It never occurred to me to try to watch the gradations from the side.

That's right--by the end you are an expert and it takes mere minutes! I just take a nice big cleansing breath before I stick myself and it is done. I even got to be okay at doing the draw down for the ProCrit (no bubbles)--glad it is behind me though!

Yep, don't worry, Tim. By the end of your treatment it'll be like falling off a log. You won't even remember if you did it or not, and have to check the box in the fridge to see if one is missing. I have learned to do either side easily, but I have to pinch with my left hand and inject with the right. It's just the way my hands work, being a normal, right-handed person Alan

Check out picture #1- syringe held in right hand. Notice the marking are in "normal"  position, easy to see:

Picture #1

Now look at picture #2 which shows syringe in Left hand, and in the position of giving shot in Right thigh:

Picture #2

In that position I can't see the plunger position, and because of the angle I don't have a good "feel" for when the handle of the plunger is all the way in.

I suppose I'll be an expert at shoving a needle in my skin...sometime before the end of treatment.

Margo,  not to worry- no offense taken, my hide's at least a foot thick.

I'd love to have two left hands...be pretty "handy".       r1ofl.gif

Hi Tim, you just have to follow the instructions that comes with Redi Pen. Its following the steps, I missed step 2 or something and the redipen broke...I find the syringe easier, redi pen was a little complicated. What exactly ate your issues with syringes?

Oh no, I thought that the Redi Pen would be simpler.  hmm        My problem with syringes may be due to them being designed for right-handed people. It's easier to do the shots when located on my Left,  I can see the syringe better, and the angle is comfortable, more so than when injecting on the Right side.

I see... Can anyone else administer it for you? My husband does My shots and believe me he is a person with two left hands:) and not the most gentle person in the world. I did Redi pen myself last treatment, this time around injections make me a little anxious. Tim, the best way is to call your insurance and request a nurse, it's free or ask your close ones to do it for you. You don't have to be a pro to do it, if I let my husband do it for me, anyone can:)

Well, I did contact my NP to see if I can get the redipen instead of the syringe; will find out Monday if it's a yay or nay.

Hi Tim, sorry you've had no luck with their nurses, but I'm pretty sure it's not a big deal. I know Pegasys comes in the Redi Pen, but I tend to mess up that darn pegintron Redi pen a few times. Your insurance should offer a free nurse who will come to the house to give you injections.

Hi Margo,   in what way could the Redi Pen malfunction?   I could probably have issues with it too, just flat don't like needles.  doh     <-sour lookin' emoticon

I spent over half hour jumping-thru-hoops with Kaiser Permanante's automated phone system, even talked to someone briefly in "KP-on-Call" who put me on hold...foreverfurious

I'll be composing a message to Kaiser's Patient Services(when I calm down) to complain about lack of straight-forward after-hours support.

<!> idea

I've had trouble with injections before, and am coming up on refill time...I shall contact my NP to see if I can get the redipen instead of the syringe; all she can say is "no".

Thanks guys, I should have known that the only call I need to make is:

Hi Tim,

If it's only a little, I doubt it should matter.  The prescribing dose is standard 180mcg for adults.  Given our variation in body weight, if they only have one dose, I'm assuming a little variation is tolerable.

All the Best, Dave

Probably not, as long as most of it went in. Why dont you call the nurses at pegasys to make sure.

I just did shot #11, which went to Right inner thigh; being that I am left-handed the view of the syringe was blocked partially by my hand.

There was a little bit of Pegasys left in the syringe, is that going to be a problem?
