I've been married 33 years and figure I contracted HCV 2 or 3 years later from unsterile tattoo work. My wife continues to be HCV free as well. I have a daughter that also is HCV free. When I was first diagnosed in 1996 my doctor at the time took me aside and just before I started monotherapy with the 3 shot per week Interferon routine, he asked me outright how many years had I been an IV drug user. I never was an IV drug user! I was a US Navy Corpsman, did indeed have the occasional needle stick injury because things in the field as well as in the OR were different than they are today. Sterile, even clean procedure has vastly improved over the years, thank goodness!! I'm going to blame it on the tattoo work over the years and not try to blame it on anyone else, like the Navy. Who knows but what I do know is that it wasn't from IV drug use. That doctor was almost relentless in his accusations, telling me that it wasn't possible that I got it from tattoo work. Well as we know now, that was totally incorrect on his part. I'm still angry of the way he  treated me that day. As he got in my face, I had no choice but to get in his and be as firm in my denial as he was in his accusation. Whatever way you contracted this disease, don't let anyone accuse you of being a bad person because of it and don't like my doctor, let anyone accuse you of something you didn't do. Be honest first with yourself, the rest will follow. What you share with others is your choice and whom you choose to share it with should be made with due consideration IMO. I value the friendships we make with people like the membership here. I always feel safe here and the support is wonderful. These support groups save lives, I'm convinced of that!

58 yo..Relapsed in 99 and again in 2004. Started triple therapy with Victrelis July 22,2012.  genotype 1a. week 8,12,16,24 VL Undetectable..E.O.T -- 6-22-2013,,,EOT + 24., UND. 

SVR !!!

I have been married 24 years, with a
Passionate marriage--my husband is Hep C free.
We have never used protection.
A lot of people I know who have Hep C lied
About how they got it for fear of what
People will think and/or fear of what people
Will think. The nurses I know that have it
Blame it on exposure at work; they say they were
Pricked by needle from hep c patient.
This way they have job security and insurance
And respectability.
I am an open book; people that know me
Now would never think I smoked a cigarette.
God and AA saved me 27 years ago and I
Share it to try and give back what's been so
Freely given to me. Not to say this is right for everyone.
It was a freedom for me--people have come
From everywhere to talk to me about Hep C.
I hope to shed light on this virus and encourage
Others that sober life is a GREAT LIFE.
I couldn't be happier. Look how lost and sad I use to be....attachment

I was going to comment on this again before because when I was looking at many of the references they were mostly early 90's and 2000's although I do see one study from 2011 in Israel. Can't see what the results are because I'm not paying for it;).

I have had some medical workers here at hospitals in the US tell me HCV can be in all secretions but I took that with a big grain of salt. I am sure they have to set a protocol to protect themselves at work.

Myself, I have to go with what I have been told by my Hepa Doctor and professionals directly experienced in the field until I see some proof otherwise.

looks like a junk science to me too...but still makes u wonder about hcv viral RNA found in body fluids other than blood, regardeless is it transmissionable by it or not, still makes you wonder...

Hey Zlikster,

That's from Japan in 2005!. I think it's a load of rubbish. The journal of Microbiology is not really cutting-edge stuff, but good on you for still scouring the net. Transmission by saliva has never been proved. It pays to be vigilant, but lets stick with blood.  Cheers.

Thanks for sharing that! I've always felt that we have only scratched the surface of potential sites of contamination or transfer. These articles and tests always remind me of the need for personal attention or protection to those around me.
