Thanks for this post.  I was wondering about those levels and how they would shake out after tx.  You are an inspiration - what a long journey to normalcy!

Malcolm,

I'm happy to see your good report, it's amazing that you're already 10 months post-tx, so glad that you're decades long fight is finally paying-off.

Congratulations!!  Your Hgb sure looks nice.  Had to be really rough during Tx with your labs dropping so low.  My pre-TX labs were about the same as yours.  These new meds are really great--I am almost normal in all areas and still have 4 weeks to go.

Enjoy your golf with your new found energy!!

What excellent news, Malcolm, you must be delighted with these results!  How wonderful to see the difference now at 10 months post tx... all those weeks and months of struggling with difficult side effects were worth every moment!

So pleased for you!  smile

Thanks guys.

Bob, GGT is Gamma Glutamyl Transpeptidase and is the most non-specific of the liver enzymes.  It is released from hepatocytes in many conditions.  It can be raised from smoking, age, arterial degeneration, caffeine, alcohol and virtually any drug consumption. If the ALP is raised as well, this is good evidence of liver disease.  It is used in the FibroTest (Fibrosure) for liver fibrosis, which is why I think this test is pretty useless. Cheers.

Looks good, platelets enzymes are very good. I never seen GGT on any of my blood tests.

Hey Malcolm

Considering all things, age, duration of infection, amount of previous treatments I say those numbers are good and will only get better with time and good circumstances.

That looks excellent Malcolm! You've earned every one of those great numbers. I can only imagine how good that makes you and your family feel when you see those great improvements. As you say, "Cheers Mate!"

Hi all,

Most of you have normal enzymes, but for me this has never been the case.  I've just had some blood work done, and my ALT is 'just' within the normal range, for the first time since I started keeping records, in 1988.      It's hard to predict how cirrhotics will respond to SVR, but I'm fairly happy so far.

                           GGT    AST    ALT    Hb    Platelets

Dec. 2011             134     128    142    16.2    166k     (pre-Rx)

Dec. 2012             182     100     91      7.9     46k     ( after 10 months of triple Rx)

Dec. 2013              46      38      44     15.9    159k     ( 10 months post-Rx)

So, fellow cirrhotics, there appears to be hope. Cheers.
