Hello Karen

Welcome to forum from me to, you have found a good place. Karen you should feel fortunate that your doctor was bright enough to find your HCV very early, most of us have found out much later in life. Tig was correct in that they are going to make GT3 the next most researched Geno type to find a good treatment that brings a very high cure rate.

You're with a bunch of very kind and informed people and invite you to search our forum using the search function at top center of each page and what you can't find there, ask any question you like. We invite all questions and promise to provide our best informed opinions whenever possible.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this at any time in your life, but it's getting more and more promising with the advent of the new DAA's, like Sovaldi and Olysio. I agree that the old SOC (standard of care) provided lower than desired SVR rates. But I want you to check this report on the new drug treatments and see for yourself that the rates of success have really improved for GT 3's. I hope it gives you hope and the desire to investigate the possibilities of treatment further. Be well and I hope to see you around! Be well....

Thanks a lot. Good to hear that you are starting treatment soon and genotype 2 I hear is the easiest of all genotypes to treat. And with sovaldi numbers are looking good for genotype 2. I think I am going to wait for new treatments b/c my genotype is not responding very well to this treatment. I have never been treated and also I am looking into some up coming clinical trials too. good luck to you

Welcome Karen. You're among great company here. There are some very knowledgeable people here, ask all the questions you have, they will answer to the best of their abilities. There are people here who are waiting for access to meds, others who are in the midst of treatment and share their journey for others to see, and there are some who have been successful and slayed the beast. Me personally, I start treatment a week from today - my meds will be here by Saturday and all my follow up appointments have been made - I'm ready to jump on board the bandwagon.  As for you, your docs will probably have suggestions as to when you should treat and with what, but only you can make that decision when you're good and ready!   Keep your head up!

Hi everyone, my name is karen and I recently got diagnosed with hep c genotype 3 in october 2012. It came as a complete surprise to me and I was shocked. I got diagnosed by accident because I went to my doctor for a physical and he did some blood work and came to find out my liver enzymes were slightly elevated AST 58 AND ALT 47. he was concerned because i am very healthy otherwise, so he ordered some more tests and hep c was one of them because of some history of surgery i had when i was 13. So I got a call from him saying that i was positive for hep c. I was then referred to a specialist we discussed the treatment options but I am scared to start treatment. I am 35 years old and I have no idea when and how i got this disease but I am glad that at least I know that I have it and can do something about it
