Hi David,

Welcome to the Forum. It would be very useful to get a liver staging by Fibroscan or biopsy. Your doctor cannot assess your liver stage clinically or by Lab. tests.

The SVR rate for Geno 2 is >80% with the 'old' Peg and Riba. I can understand why some Insurance Cos would think this is pretty good, unless there's a reason you can't take Interferon.

By knowing your liver stage, you can decide whether to wait until the dust settles. Cheers.

Thanks . I do see how the state of change going on affects info sharing and how it should be ultimately in our favor too for getting cured .

Hi David:

I just responded to you in another thread but there is something I wanted to add to this line of inquiry.  Generally, this type of information sharing is a great idea.  The problem here, however, is that everything is in a state of flux because of the upcoming anticipated changes in treatment options.  As tx options change so will medical guidelines (as well as individual physician's positions) and so will insurance coverage.

I fully understand that waiting sucks, but for those who can, waiting patiently may be the best option for insurance coverage and for the most effective and safest meds.  Not to mention the additional stress which is not good for the body or mind.   In the meantime we can get our ducks in order, and by ducks I mean our health, and our understanding of our health.  Have fibroscans, eat healthy, exercise, enjoy life.

Hi all , 

I've been reading this forum for about a year now and feel it's time to take part . I was diagnosed about two years ago , geno 2b . last VL was 750,000 . I was approved for Peg/Riba last year but opted to wait for new meds . I'm about to be denied treatment for Sovaldi/Riba  as I guess my insurance co , UnitedHealthCare , won't treat for less than stage 3 fibrosis . I haven't had a fibroscan , but my doc seems sure I'll be less than stage 3 . It's not formally denied yet , but I'm pretty sure it's going to be . I'm wondering if it would be a good idea for us to have a tally going regarding which companies are denying/approving treatment plans for those otherwise deemed to be too healthy . (less than stage 3)
