Unfortunately, yes, Lisa.  Of course it`s right that those people who for various reasons aren`t able to take interferon-based tx are able to have access to Sovaldi on a priority basis, that`s how it has to be when funds are limited, but at the same time it`s very frustrating for people who would really prefer an all oral treatment but who don`t fit the criteria.

I think it is just terrible that these easier to treat, and just as/ if not more effective medications are not made available to others. It is just criminal to put someone thru the torture today that is unnecessary suffering on top of an already life changing and in many ways debilitating illness. I know this is wrong but....I really hope that the $$ pigs that are preventing this from becoming reality soon see themselves or one of their loved ones made to endure a treatment that is very difficult so they can realize what their decisions do to others and their families...I want it to be set so that even if you have gazillions of $$'s you cannot get the easy treatment unless you qualify the same as the guy who is now penniless because healthcare has wiped him out that would change the whole playing field for everyone and you'd see swift change in how this stuff is handled when a gazillionaire can't use his money and influence to tilt the scale in their favor.  Yes, Huey, I wonder how that will work for tx naive genotype 2`s?  Tx naive but at the same time interferon intolerant?! 

I was telling my brother about this oxymoron and he ask,  What if your just plain stupid like the guy who got the drug needles mixed up after treatment?  

That will proly be to only one to qualify.. Irony

  HCV Genotype 3a , now Psot-Tx was on S/riba. First VL was 5.8 mil on 7-5-13 then "und" at 3.8 weeks. 06/13/14 still und. off meds 3 days back on 7/29 Last pill 08/10/14 SVR+4

This doesn't surprise me at all, I think this will be the method across Europe until prices plummet! :/

I suppose this means the Dr. in Scotland have to give you peg interferon, at least one shot, so you can say ,, I can't stand this. and get the 24 week interferon free Tx/ Thats Dumb/

The Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) has today published its advice on the use of the drug sofosbuvir on the NHS in Scotland. The body of experts have "accepted sofosbuvir for restricted use in patients with genotypes 1 to 6."

The SMC go on to make the following specific restrictions:

Use in treatment naive patients with genotype 2 is restricted to those who are ineligible for, or are unable to tolerate, peginterferon alfa

Use of the 24-week interferon-free regimen of sofosbuvir in combination with ribavirin in patients with genotype 3 is restricted to those who are ineligible for, or are unable to tolerate, peginterferon alfa
