 Hi Pltmt. Welcome to the forum! smile

 Wow, you've had quite a ride and your experience is inspirational for me and gives me hope. I am curious to know how well you have recovered from the confusion and fluid retention you experienced pre-transplant? Were you taking any medication  such as Lactulose or Xifaxin for encephalopathy? Or furosemide or spironolactone for fluid retention?

 I sure hope you continue to post on this forum. Your experience can be very helpful to many of us who are possibly facing some of the issues in the future that you have been through.

64 yo Diagnosed in 1991 with Hep C, Genotype 1a, VL close to 16,000,000, Tx Abbvie Topaz II 9/5/14, Wk 2 and 4 und. End of treatment 11/27/14 undetected.  EOT+4 und  EOT+12 und.  EOT+24 und CURED, EOT +52 now I feel really cured.

Greetings all,

 

Today I am celebrating - 1 year post liver transplant due to this terrible malady. By the time I was diagnosed with Hep C back in 2010, my liver was already at stage 4 sclerosis. I tried the dual & triple medication treatments, my body was in such bad condition, I ended up being hospitalized & had to stop treatment. During a 4 month period June of 2013 I kept getting very sleepy & my blood pressure diastolic count was in the 20's & I fell into comas. & suffered frequent confusion & severe fluid retention. When the blood pressure gets that low, it causes permanent kidney damage. I was confined to the hospital & on my death bed mid October 2013 when I was blessed to have a donor liver offered for transplantation.

After several months of post transplant recuperation, I finally regained my strength & returned to work. In May of this year, my Hep C viral load was 5 million & my Dr.'s put me on the new dual treatment of Olysio &  Savaldi. Within a few weeks, I was diagnosed as undetected & subsequently completed the 12 week therapy in August. As of a week ago I am still undetected. I look forward to a new life that I was given. Please don't ever give up. One of the biggest challenges If you are at an end stage & It's crucial; if you feel sleepy & confused, make sure some one is with you at all times to make sure you don't sleep too much ( 8 hrs or so at a time ), or you may never wake up again. I am so thankful for my wife who was able to call 911 & get me to the hospitals in time. No matter how bad things get, there is still hope for recovery & ultimately cure. I am living proof.
