Hi Paul I was on the Abbvie trial and completed it taking only vitamin C and the occasional sleeping med. When in doubt don't take them because you duration on the meds will be short and you want them to be effective. Good Luck !

Hi Paul,

heres a list of the abbreviations we use here:

http://hepcfriends.activeboard.com/t51085702/forum-abbreviations/?page=1#comment-51085702

SVR stands for "Sustained Viral Response". It is referred to following successful treatment and there has been no detectable virus found 12 weeks following the end of treatment.

Thanks everyone for the very insightful responses, and for the warm welcome. I have been fending off this virus in my own vacuum for 25 years now, and it is great to know there is such a supportive group out there. Miracles of technology have come about since catching this disease that enable us all to communicate freely and share our experiences. Miracles of modern science have also given us hope that this disease is on the wane. I look forward to hearing each and every one of your stories and experiences regarding this illness and your treatments. As a newbie, I'm not familiar with all of the lingo yet; what is SVR?

Hey Paul welcome, you and I started Harvoni on the same day.  Hoping we make SVR.  I am expecting all on Harvoni to do some serious kickin of dragon butt.  biggrinbiggrin   I suspect you're as tired of this stuff as I am.  We're gonna put this dragon to his knees and finish him off!!!     I agree with others... take as few meds or supplements as possible.  Don't want anything to get in the way.  I have meds for insomnia but will hesitate to take anything unless it's absolutely necessary.   Labs at 4 weeks, good luck on your path.   Be well.

Hi Paul, welcome from me too!

I agree with what the others have said, there`s no way of knowing how this or any other supplement will interact with your treatment drugs so my opinion would be to play it safe and leave it out until after you`ve finished.  Some supplements and even over the counter medicines can also affect your blood results, for example your liver enzyme levels, and you want to aim to keep your results as `clean` as possible.

It`s great to hear you`ve started on Harvoni, congrats and best of luck!!  Do keep us posted on your progress!

I totally agree with Isis. I am on a course of keflex antibiotics for the past few days and I am not sure one way or the other if its ok but i can't get an infection in my surgery incision. The hepa said it would be alright though.

it's a neccesary treatment or i wouldn't be doing it.

Take great care

Welcome Paul:

The fact that it isn't on the list of prohibited drugs doesn't mean it won't impact efficacy.   Unless it has been tested in clincial studies there is simply no evidence on which to base a decision--no way for your doc to know either.

You may have people telling you "it is okay" or "it is not ok" but the truth is nobody really knows at this point.  The way I look at it is "When in doubt leave it out."  You don't want even a small chance of reduction of efficacy--especially with the cost of these drugs.

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR TX!

Jen-

Thanks for the quick response. I did look through the literature and did not see any mention of krill or fish oils. My Dr. said absolutely no milk thistle, which makes sense. But I did see somewhere on this site, a negative reference to antioxidants in combination with Harvoni. I will keep looking. Best of luck with your treatment.

Paul

Welcome Paul,

I had some questions about what i can and cannot take and called the support line and they jsut told me to call the doctor. W/E

I had a list of drugs and otc supplements I can't take. It came with the Harvoni. Check your literature. It might have gotten misplaced. but there is a list online at Gilead website.

Glad your here. this group is amazing

Hi- I'm 62 years old diagnosed with genotype 1b in 1989. Probably picked up hep-C the easy way along with hep-B back in 1969. Today is my second day on Harvoni. I had a biopsy in 1998 and subsequent treatment with interferon/Ribavirin which had to be terminated after about 6 weeks; really nasty stuff. My viral load is about 6 million, and I am asymptomatic. I know that milk thistle and St. John's Wort is a no-no with this medication, but how about Krill oil? I take it every day as an antioxidant, and it has had amazing results with very painful rheumatoid arthritis in my hands, so I am reluctant to give it up. I will if I have to as it is only for 12 weeks. does anyone have any information regarding what you cannot take with Harvoni? Thanks in advance to what I know will be very thoughtful and insightful responses.
